This playlist documents an entire year of Gypsy Rose Blanchard's prison phone calls from 2018, organized chronologically so you can follow the conversations and events as they unfolded in real time. Throughout the year, you'll hear Gypsy's conversations with Kristy and Rod Blanchard, Ken Urker, family members, friends, supporters, and others in her life while she was incarcerated at Chillicothe Correctional Center in Missouri. These calls cover everything from ordinary day-to-day prison life and family updates to relationships, money, media coverage, documentaries, her criminal case, Dee Dee Blanchard, Nicholas Godejohn, future plans, and the public attention surrounding her story. Some calls are uneventful. Others contain details that become much more significant when viewed alongside later interviews, documentaries, public statements, and other records. Rather than focusing only on selected clips, this series is intended to preserve the larger context of the 2018 calls and allow viewers to hear how conversations, relationships, and stories developed throughout the year. The calls are presented chronologically, beginning in January 2018 and continuing through December 2018. Prison call recordings were obtained through a public-records request from the Missouri Department of Corrections and are being shared for commentary, documentation, research, and educational purposes.

On July 6, 2018, Gypsy Rose Blanchard calls Ken Urker, and their conversation takes an unexpected turn when Gypsy reveals a bizarre dream about their future together. The call begins with Gypsy telling Ken that she went to the library and gathered information about visitation policies. After the trouble they experienced during Ken's previous visits, Gypsy wants to make sure he understands the rules. She even tells him she highlighted the important sections so he can read them and remember them. Ken assures Gypsy that he believes he's learned his lesson. They briefly discuss missing each other, delayed emails and Gypsy's plans to send Ken a copy of her completed class certificate. Then Gypsy tells Ken about a strange dream. In the dream, it's 2024 and Gypsy has been released. She and Ken are shopping at a futuristic mall with digital dressing rooms that can determine clothing sizes and recommend styles. But while Gypsy is trying on jeans, the technology suddenly informs her that she's pregnant. Not only that, but she's supposedly in her second trimester and expecting a baby girl! Then things take a disturbing turn. Gypsy says the machine tells her that certain genetic factors mean the baby will likely have birth defects, including possible intellectual disabilities. Ken is confused about how Gypsy could already be in her second trimester so soon after her release. Gypsy laughs and insists that in her dream, it was Ken's baby. Ken calls the entire experience a nightmare. That leads Ken into another uncomfortable story, this time involving a real encounter at work. Ken explains that the Special Olympics were taking place in Seattle near one of his bartending jobs. While working, he overheard customers struggling to pronounce “ricotta cheese” and made a joke referencing the Special Olympics. But when he turned around, he realized the customers were wearing Special Olympics badges. Even worse, they explained that their son had just competed in the games. Ken admits he was immediately embarrassed and realized how inappropriate his comment sounded. He tells Gypsy that he managed to smooth things over with the family, but the experience left him feeling extremely awkward. Gypsy laughs at the story and tells Ken she wishes she could have witnessed the encounter. Before ending the call, Ken reassures Gypsy about their imaginary future baby, and the two discuss their upcoming schedules. Gypsy says she has plenty of free time because her teacher is on vacation and her boss has been absent. They make plans to speak again over the weekend before exchanging “I love you.” DISCLAIMER: This audio was obtained from the Missouri Department of Corrections through a Missouri Sunshine Law public-record request.
