This playlist documents an entire year of Gypsy Rose Blanchard's prison phone calls from 2018, organized chronologically so you can follow the conversations and events as they unfolded in real time. Throughout the year, you'll hear Gypsy's conversations with Kristy and Rod Blanchard, Ken Urker, family members, friends, supporters, and others in her life while she was incarcerated at Chillicothe Correctional Center in Missouri. These calls cover everything from ordinary day-to-day prison life and family updates to relationships, money, media coverage, documentaries, her criminal case, Dee Dee Blanchard, Nicholas Godejohn, future plans, and the public attention surrounding her story. Some calls are uneventful. Others contain details that become much more significant when viewed alongside later interviews, documentaries, public statements, and other records. Rather than focusing only on selected clips, this series is intended to preserve the larger context of the 2018 calls and allow viewers to hear how conversations, relationships, and stories developed throughout the year. The calls are presented chronologically, beginning in January 2018 and continuing through December 2018. Prison call recordings were obtained through a public-records request from the Missouri Department of Corrections and are being shared for commentary, documentation, research, and educational purposes.

On June 27, 2018, Gypsy Rose Blanchard calls Ken Urker first thing in the morning for a short conversation about their everyday lives, Ken’s demanding work schedule, and a change Gypsy hopes to make before their anniversary. Ken tells Gypsy she called him almost exactly when she said she would, and he’s happy she called because now he knows he needs to get out of bed. The two talk about how they slept, with Gypsy revealing something unexpected: she likes drinking coffee before bed. She says coffee actually helps her sleep at night even though it wakes her up in the morning, and claims she has been drinking coffee since she was around four years old. Ken then explains that he has a very long workday ahead of him. He has to work until approximately 7 p.m. at his regular job before heading to his second job to help close the bar, meaning he expects to work until around midnight. Ken also jokes that he’s the “big boss man” now because he’s essentially a supervisor and has some flexibility with his breaks. Gypsy tells Ken about her own plans for the day, including school, homework and meeting with her caseworker. But the most interesting part of the conversation comes when Gypsy reveals that she’s trying to get permission to change her hair color. Gypsy wants to dye her hair a deep, dark red. She explains that she doesn’t want bright or “flaming” red hair. Instead, she wants it dark enough that it still appears almost black but has a noticeable hint of red. The timing also has some significance. Gypsy tells Ken she may be able to have her hair changed right before their anniversary, meaning Ken would get to see her new look. Ken responds: “I can’t wait to see that.” The call ends with Ken preparing for his long day working both jobs. Gypsy tells him not to work too hard, and the two exchange “I love you” before agreeing to talk again the following day.
