This playlist documents an entire year of Gypsy Rose Blanchard's prison phone calls from 2018, organized chronologically so you can follow the conversations and events as they unfolded in real time. Throughout the year, you'll hear Gypsy's conversations with Kristy and Rod Blanchard, Ken Urker, family members, friends, supporters, and others in her life while she was incarcerated at Chillicothe Correctional Center in Missouri. These calls cover everything from ordinary day-to-day prison life and family updates to relationships, money, media coverage, documentaries, her criminal case, Dee Dee Blanchard, Nicholas Godejohn, future plans, and the public attention surrounding her story. Some calls are uneventful. Others contain details that become much more significant when viewed alongside later interviews, documentaries, public statements, and other records. Rather than focusing only on selected clips, this series is intended to preserve the larger context of the 2018 calls and allow viewers to hear how conversations, relationships, and stories developed throughout the year. The calls are presented chronologically, beginning in January 2018 and continuing through December 2018. Prison call recordings were obtained through a public-records request from the Missouri Department of Corrections and are being shared for commentary, documentation, research, and educational purposes.

In this May 28, 2018 call between Gypsy Rose Blanchard and Kristy Blanchard, the conversation covers Michelle Dean and The Act, unexpected television coverage of Gypsy's case, Nick Godejohn's upcoming legal proceedings, and Gypsy's continuing concerns about Ken moving closer to her. Kristy starts by reading Gypsy the email she sent to Michelle Dean after learning that The Act was moving forward. Kristy tells Michelle that the project is causing Gypsy anxiety and argues that Gypsy should be viewed “as a person, not as a story.” She repeatedly asks Michelle to reconsider the project and says: “It is her story to tell, not yours.” Kristy says she deliberately chose a more restrained approach first: “I’d rather try the subtle approach first... and then go for the jugular.” Meanwhile, Gypsy has discovered yet another television program about her case. She says she saw a commercial indicating that she would be featured on Killer Kids and had no prior knowledge of it. That leads her to acknowledge that she can't control every program made about her case. What she can control, she says, is her own participation: “If I don’t want the media attention, then I’m not gonna do any interviews.” She says she's going to do her part to “fade and just blend in.” But then the conversation takes a major turn toward Nick Godejohn. Gypsy worries that her previous interviews focused heavily on Munchausen by proxy and wonders how those statements could affect her if she's called as a witness in Nick's case. Then she makes a very significant distinction about the crime: “The straight up facts are that Nick knew that I had that kind of lifestyle, but whenever it boiled down to it, the only reason we committed the murder is so that we could be together.” Gypsy says she doesn't believe Nick deserves life without parole and discusses what she might say if she's called to Greene County or required to give a deposition. She tells Kristy: “I’ll straight out say... hey, I manipulated him. I was the mastermind, whatever.” Gypsy then explains that she would consider saying this “to make him a little bit more of a victim” and try to help him. Kristy immediately pushes back. She repeatedly tells Gypsy not to say it that way, warning that making such a statement could cause people to question Gypsy all over again. Kristy instead argues that responsibility was shared between Gypsy and Nick and tells her: “You did not manipulate him.” That's probably the most important exchange in the entire call because you get both positions in the same conversation. Gypsy later says that she doesn't want Nick to spend the rest of his life incarcerated. She would rather see him serve prison time, receive treatment in an appropriate facility, and potentially be released someday. The call eventually returns to Ken. Gypsy tells Kristy what happened during her 05/27 conversation with him, including her suggestion that he postpone moving for six months. She admits: “This is where I fucked myself.” She recounts Ken responding: “You’re breaking my heart.” Gypsy explains that she wasn't questioning their relationship. She wanted reassurance that moving was really what Ken wanted. By the end, Gypsy says she plans to stop bringing it up and allow Ken to move whenever he's ready. #GypsyRoseBlanchard #GypsyRose #NicholasGodejohn #NickGodejohn #KristyBlanchard #MichelleDean #TheAct #DeeDeeBlanchard #GypsyRosePrisonCalls #PrisonPhoneCalls #PrisonCalls #TrueCrime #TrueCrimeCommunity #FOIA #TheBlanchardFiles
