2018 Gypsy Rose Blanchard: The Prison Calls

This playlist documents an entire year of Gypsy Rose Blanchard's prison phone calls from 2018, organized chronologically so you can follow the conversations and events as they unfolded in real time. Throughout the year, you'll hear Gypsy's conversations with Kristy and Rod Blanchard, Ken Urker, family members, friends, supporters, and others in her life while she was incarcerated at Chillicothe Correctional Center in Missouri. These calls cover everything from ordinary day-to-day prison life and family updates to relationships, money, media coverage, documentaries, her criminal case, Dee Dee Blanchard, Nicholas Godejohn, future plans, and the public attention surrounding her story. Some calls are uneventful. Others contain details that become much more significant when viewed alongside later interviews, documentaries, public statements, and other records. Rather than focusing only on selected clips, this series is intended to preserve the larger context of the 2018 calls and allow viewers to hear how conversations, relationships, and stories developed throughout the year. The calls are presented chronologically, beginning in January 2018 and continuing through December 2018. Prison call recordings were obtained through a public-records request from the Missouri Department of Corrections and are being shared for commentary, documentation, research, and educational purposes.

Currently Playing: Gypsy Rose Reacts to THE ACT Moving Forward: “I Thought Her Project Would Fail” | 05/20/2018

In this May 20, 2018 Gypsy Rose Blanchard prison phone call, Gypsy talks with Kristy Blanchard about The Act, Michelle Dean, another project reportedly being pitched to Lifetime, Dr. Marc Feldman's book, Fancy/Francesca, Ken Urker and Rod potentially meeting Ken for the first time. One of the biggest moments comes when Gypsy learns that Michelle Dean's project was moving forward. Gypsy explains that she had known about the project approximately a year and a half earlier, but says her family eventually stopped communicating with Michelle because they didn't feel included in what was being created. Gypsy admits she believed their decision to step away would stop the project: “I thought once we pulled ourselves away from it that she wouldn't have a leg to stand on and her project would fail.” That project would become Hulu's The Act, making Gypsy's May 2018 reaction particularly interesting to hear years later. Meanwhile, Kristy tells Gypsy about a separate project involving Francesca/Fancy that she says was going to be pitched directly to Lifetime. Kristy and Gypsy discuss what could potentially happen if Lifetime picked it up and their belief at the time that repeated airings could continue generating money. Then another name enters the conversation: Dr. Marc Feldman. Gypsy learns that Feldman, a psychiatrist who had appeared in coverage surrounding her case, was reportedly writing a book. Her immediate reaction is definitely memorable. 😂 There's also plenty happening outside the media projects. Gypsy and Kristy discuss Ken Urker potentially meeting Rod Blanchard, with Rod reportedly wanting an opportunity to meet Ken outside the prison before they all have a visit together. Gypsy explains that although she'd previously had short “prison relationships,” she considers Ken her first truly serious relationship. The call also includes a wild conversation about Fancy/Francesca, alleged threats she was receiving, Kristy's claim about her military training, plus everyday updates about Gypsy's life, visitation and family. This is another look inside the 2018 prison phone calls of Gypsy Rose Blanchard, years before her release and before The Act became one of the most recognizable dramatizations of the Blanchard case. #GypsyRoseBlanchard #GypsyRose #TheAct #TheActHulu #MichelleDean #KristyBlanchard #DeeDeeBlanchard #KenUrker #RodBlanchard #GypsyRosePrisonCalls #PrisonPhoneCalls #TrueCrime #TrueCrimeCommunity #FOIA #TheBlanchardFiles
