2018 Gypsy Rose Blanchard: The Prison Calls

This playlist documents an entire year of Gypsy Rose Blanchard's prison phone calls from 2018, organized chronologically so you can follow the conversations and events as they unfolded in real time. Throughout the year, you'll hear Gypsy's conversations with Kristy and Rod Blanchard, Ken Urker, family members, friends, supporters, and others in her life while she was incarcerated at Chillicothe Correctional Center in Missouri. These calls cover everything from ordinary day-to-day prison life and family updates to relationships, money, media coverage, documentaries, her criminal case, Dee Dee Blanchard, Nicholas Godejohn, future plans, and the public attention surrounding her story. Some calls are uneventful. Others contain details that become much more significant when viewed alongside later interviews, documentaries, public statements, and other records. Rather than focusing only on selected clips, this series is intended to preserve the larger context of the 2018 calls and allow viewers to hear how conversations, relationships, and stories developed throughout the year. The calls are presented chronologically, beginning in January 2018 and continuing through December 2018. Prison call recordings were obtained through a public-records request from the Missouri Department of Corrections and are being shared for commentary, documentation, research, and educational purposes.

Currently Playing: “I HAD TO GO WITH MY HEART” | Gypsy Chooses 46 HOURS With Ken | 05/25/2018

In this May 25, 2018 call between Gypsy Rose Blanchard and Ken Urker, Gypsy surprises Ken with a decision she has made about their upcoming visit. Gypsy begins by telling Ken: “If you promise not to tell my dad or Kristy...” She reveals that she submitted paperwork requesting a special visit for Ken, which would allow them to have double visitation sessions on all three days of his upcoming trip. There's a catch. Gypsy says she's going to tell her dad that the special visit for Kristy and Rod was denied. Ken is surprised by what she's done and realizes that choosing the special visit for him means changing the amount of time available for her parents. Gypsy explains her reasoning: “I really want us to have as much time together as possible.” Then comes the line that really sums up the decision: “I knew it was a choice, but I had to go with my heart again. So that's what I chose.” Later, they calculate what the new arrangement could mean. Gypsy is excited about potentially getting approximately 46 hours with Ken over the three-day visit. Kristy and Rod could still visit during individual sessions, but Ken could potentially have full days with Gypsy if the request is approved. The call also has a funny but potentially controversial moment when Gypsy discovers someone has stolen her foundation. She complains that the lighter foundation is out of stock, and Ken jokes that she can buy “the black girl foundation.” Gypsy repeats the phrase while talking about trying to get a tan before his visit. Near the end, they realize another milestone is approaching. Ken says it has officially been about one year since he first learned who Gypsy was and wrote to her. They jokingly call it their one-year “knowing each other anniversary,” while saying June 2 would be closer to the anniversary of when they actually connected. And right before hanging up, Ken again threatens to tell her parents about what she did. Gypsy immediately responds: “No, don't tell them. Don't tell them.” #GypsyRoseBlanchard #GypsyRose #KenUrker #KristyBlanchard #RodBlanchard #GypsyAndKen #GypsyRosePrisonCalls #PrisonPhoneCalls #PrisonCalls #TrueCrime #TrueCrimeCommunity #TrueCrimeYouTube #FOIA #TheBlanchardFiles #TrueCrimeDocumentary
