This playlist documents an entire year of Gypsy Rose Blanchard's prison phone calls from 2018, organized chronologically so you can follow the conversations and events as they unfolded in real time. Throughout the year, you'll hear Gypsy's conversations with Kristy and Rod Blanchard, Ken Urker, family members, friends, supporters, and others in her life while she was incarcerated at Chillicothe Correctional Center in Missouri. These calls cover everything from ordinary day-to-day prison life and family updates to relationships, money, media coverage, documentaries, her criminal case, Dee Dee Blanchard, Nicholas Godejohn, future plans, and the public attention surrounding her story. Some calls are uneventful. Others contain details that become much more significant when viewed alongside later interviews, documentaries, public statements, and other records. Rather than focusing only on selected clips, this series is intended to preserve the larger context of the 2018 calls and allow viewers to hear how conversations, relationships, and stories developed throughout the year. The calls are presented chronologically, beginning in January 2018 and continuing through December 2018. Prison call recordings were obtained through a public-records request from the Missouri Department of Corrections and are being shared for commentary, documentation, research, and educational purposes.

In this April 16, 2018 prison call, Gypsy Rose Blanchard calls Kristy after completing her first day at her new prison job, but the conversation also turns to something Gypsy and Ken apparently wanted kept under tighter control: their photographs together. Gypsy starts the call excited about her first day working with the Institutional Activity Coordinator. She says she loves the job, gets to sit behind a desk, hand out people's photographs, work alongside three other women, and can even bring her homework with her. After spending around a year and a half doing janitorial work as a dorm tender, Gypsy describes the new position as much more relaxed: “It's good. I like it.” Gypsy also explains why she didn't call Ken the previous night as planned. She says the day room was shut down after staff reported smelling smoke somewhere on the wing. Everyone was locked down for the night, which Gypsy describes as “mass punishment.” She was particularly angry because she says neither she nor anyone in her room had been smoking. Then Kristy brings up one of Gypsy and Ken's pictures. Kristy says someone attempted to post the photo in a group that she moderates, but Kristy declined it because: “Ken doesn't, you know, want it to get in the wrong hands.” Gypsy agrees and explains that because the picture isn't being posted publicly in the group, she plans to send copies directly to some of her closest friends instead. The conversation then gets more interesting when they discuss another person who is apparently still a member of what they refer to as a “hate group.” Gypsy is surprised to learn the person is still there. Kristy clarifies that the person hasn't posted anything bad, but Gypsy still doesn't want her copy of the picture being reposted. Gypsy says she's glad Kristy told her because she planned to discuss the situation with Ken later that night. Toward the end of the call, Gypsy tells Kristy that while she loves her new job, she's struggling with the atmosphere in her room. Gypsy describes “bad vibes and negativity” from one roommate and says she feels instantly tense and on guard whenever she returns. She says another roommate is extremely protective of her best friend and seems ready to fight anyone who looks at her the wrong way.
