2018 Gypsy Rose Blanchard: The Prison Calls

This playlist documents an entire year of Gypsy Rose Blanchard's prison phone calls from 2018, organized chronologically so you can follow the conversations and events as they unfolded in real time. Throughout the year, you'll hear Gypsy's conversations with Kristy and Rod Blanchard, Ken Urker, family members, friends, supporters, and others in her life while she was incarcerated at Chillicothe Correctional Center in Missouri. These calls cover everything from ordinary day-to-day prison life and family updates to relationships, money, media coverage, documentaries, her criminal case, Dee Dee Blanchard, Nicholas Godejohn, future plans, and the public attention surrounding her story. Some calls are uneventful. Others contain details that become much more significant when viewed alongside later interviews, documentaries, public statements, and other records. Rather than focusing only on selected clips, this series is intended to preserve the larger context of the 2018 calls and allow viewers to hear how conversations, relationships, and stories developed throughout the year. The calls are presented chronologically, beginning in January 2018 and continuing through December 2018. Prison call recordings were obtained through a public-records request from the Missouri Department of Corrections and are being shared for commentary, documentation, research, and educational purposes.

Currently Playing: Gypsy's BALLOON RELEASE + She Panics After Seeing a TORNADO on TV | 04/20 & 04/22/2018

In these two April 2018 prison calls, Gypsy Rose Blanchard first talks with Kristy before an important event connected to her Impact of Crime on Victims class, then two days later calls Mia after seeing frightening weather coverage on television. 04/20/2018, Gypsy & Kristy Gypsy calls Kristy looking for an update from Ken after apparently missing his call. Kristy tells her that Ken had texted late the previous night, apologized because he was busy at work, and wanted Gypsy to know that he loved her. Gypsy then reveals that the balloon release she had previously talked about is finally happening that day, saying: “Today we're doing that whole balloon release thingy.” The balloon release connects back to the Impact of Crime on Victims class we've been hearing about in the previous April calls. Gypsy says general population will be attending the event at 1:30, so she doesn't have to work that day. Before hanging up, Gypsy asks Kristy to find out when Ken's next day off is. Kristy texts him during the call and gets an immediate answer: Monday. Gypsy asks Kristy to tell Ken she'll call him then, that she loves him, and that she's sent him another letter and picture. 04/22/2018, Gypsy & Mia Two days later, Gypsy calls her sister Mia with a completely different concern. She immediately asks: “Are y'all okay?” Gypsy says she had tried calling Kristy but couldn't reach her. After seeing on the Weather Channel that a tornado had touched down in the area, she says she became “really freaked out.” Mia reassures Gypsy that everyone is okay. She describes some storm damage, including damage to a Sonic, debris on roads and some power outages, but says the weather has already improved. Once Gypsy knows her family is safe, the conversation immediately becomes much lighter. Gypsy asks Mia about prom. Mia says she had a blast despite pouring rain ruining her hair. She tells Gypsy about the carnival-themed prom backdrop and the pictures she had taken. Mia also admits that she hated the makeup someone originally did for her so much that she cried, removed all of it and redid it herself. Gypsy tells her she's glad she still had a great time. These are two relatively short calls, but they capture two very different moments within just 48 hours: Gypsy participating in another part of her victims-impact class while continuing to communicate with Ken through Kristy, then becoming genuinely worried about her family after watching tornado coverage from prison. #GypsyRoseBlanchard #PrisonCalls #KristyBlanchard #TrueCrime #TheBlanchardFiles
