2018 Gypsy Rose Blanchard: The Prison Calls

This playlist documents an entire year of Gypsy Rose Blanchard's prison phone calls from 2018, organized chronologically so you can follow the conversations and events as they unfolded in real time. Throughout the year, you'll hear Gypsy's conversations with Kristy and Rod Blanchard, Ken Urker, family members, friends, supporters, and others in her life while she was incarcerated at Chillicothe Correctional Center in Missouri. These calls cover everything from ordinary day-to-day prison life and family updates to relationships, money, media coverage, documentaries, her criminal case, Dee Dee Blanchard, Nicholas Godejohn, future plans, and the public attention surrounding her story. Some calls are uneventful. Others contain details that become much more significant when viewed alongside later interviews, documentaries, public statements, and other records. Rather than focusing only on selected clips, this series is intended to preserve the larger context of the 2018 calls and allow viewers to hear how conversations, relationships, and stories developed throughout the year. The calls are presented chronologically, beginning in January 2018 and continuing through December 2018. Prison call recordings were obtained through a public-records request from the Missouri Department of Corrections and are being shared for commentary, documentation, research, and educational purposes.

Currently Playing: “DO YOU FEEL MANIPULATED?” | Gypsy Asks Ken What Her Roommates Are Saying | 04/27/2018

In this April 27, 2018 call, Gypsy Rose Blanchard and Ken Urker continue discussing the emotional conversation they had two days earlier. Gypsy tells Ken she has been thinking about how she behaved and says she even talked to friends who told her she had a “bitch moment.” She explains that she had already been under considerable stress after an emotional confrontation with her roommates before she called Ken. But then Gypsy reveals something else her roommates have been telling her. She asks Ken directly: “Do you feel manipulated?” According to Gypsy, a roommate believes she is manipulating Ken. Gypsy says these comments sometimes get into her head and cause her to question whether she's doing something wrong without realizing it. The conversation eventually turns specifically to Nick. Ken says people may compare the relationships because of what happened in Gypsy's past, but insists he makes his own decisions and doesn't feel manipulated by her. Gypsy then describes her roommate's accusation much more bluntly. She says the roommate thinks she's a “manipulative little bitch” who can manipulate men sexually, and claims the roommate compared Ken's planned move with Gypsy previously getting another man to travel across state lines. Gypsy rejects that comparison, while Ken points out that moving to Missouri was his idea. Ken tells her: “Me moving there was my idea.” And says his decision is about wanting more time with Gypsy. Gypsy explains that the roommates don't necessarily make her doubt Ken. Instead: “They make me doubt myself.” She says when people get into her head, she begins questioning what to think, do and how to act. The ICVC balloon release Later, Gypsy gives Ken a detailed account of the Impact of Crime on Victims balloon release we've been hearing about in the previous calls. Each participant created a token representing people affected by their crimes. Ken asks Gypsy who she put on hers. Gypsy answers: “I put Mom. I put Nick. I put my dad.” She says she included loved ones she believes her crime affected and wrote “No More Victims” on the token. They then walked for approximately an hour before releasing different colored balloons representing different crimes. Gypsy describes it as a day to remember “the people that we've hurt.” That's a pretty significant moment considering everything we've heard about this class throughout April. They talk about having a baby There's also a lengthy future-family conversation. Gypsy asks Ken whether he's the type of man who would want to be in the delivery room when his child is born. Ken immediately says yes. Gypsy's reaction: “Oh crap.” 😂 She says she thinks pregnancy and babies are beautiful, but childbirth is another story. Ken tells her he plans to be right beside her holding her hand. They joke about Knocked Up, who would be allowed in the delivery room, and their imagined future together. Another interesting relationship moment Gypsy explains that her domestic violence class had them make two lists, one containing traits of a perfect mate and another containing traits of a good friend. She says she wrote the lists without intentionally describing Ken, but when she finished: “I realized that the person that I was describing is you.” So this call has a strange contrast. They're discussing whether Gypsy is manipulating Ken, while Gypsy is simultaneously taking a class dealing with victims and domestic violence and telling Ken that he fits the traits she's being taught to seek in a partner. #GypsyRoseBlanchard #GypsyRose #RodBlanchard #KristyBlanchard #RyanAnderson #KenUrker #GypsyRoseCase #GypsyRosePrisonCalls #MissouriDOC #PublicRecords #TrueCrime #FOIA #PrisonCalls #CrimeDocumentary #CaseAnalysis #AudaciousAudrey
