2018 Gypsy Rose Blanchard: The Prison Calls

This playlist documents an entire year of Gypsy Rose Blanchard's prison phone calls from 2018, organized chronologically so you can follow the conversations and events as they unfolded in real time. Throughout the year, you'll hear Gypsy's conversations with Kristy and Rod Blanchard, Ken Urker, family members, friends, supporters, and others in her life while she was incarcerated at Chillicothe Correctional Center in Missouri. These calls cover everything from ordinary day-to-day prison life and family updates to relationships, money, media coverage, documentaries, her criminal case, Dee Dee Blanchard, Nicholas Godejohn, future plans, and the public attention surrounding her story. Some calls are uneventful. Others contain details that become much more significant when viewed alongside later interviews, documentaries, public statements, and other records. Rather than focusing only on selected clips, this series is intended to preserve the larger context of the 2018 calls and allow viewers to hear how conversations, relationships, and stories developed throughout the year. The calls are presented chronologically, beginning in January 2018 and continuing through December 2018. Prison call recordings were obtained through a public-records request from the Missouri Department of Corrections and are being shared for commentary, documentation, research, and educational purposes.

Currently Playing: “SHE’S ABUSING YOUR KINDNESS” | Gypsy Gives Kristy Advice on Mother’s Day | 05/13/2018

It’s Mother’s Day 2018, and Gypsy starts her call with Kristy by wishing her a Happy Mother’s Day. Kristy says she’s having a relaxing day at home with the family. The conversation eventually turns to a situation that has been stressing Kristy out. She explains that someone in her life has been coming over frequently, staying longer than expected, asking for help and making it difficult for Kristy to have time alone with her family. Kristy admits that saying no is difficult for her, but Gypsy thinks she needs to start setting boundaries. Gypsy tells her: “What she’s doing is abusing your kindness.” She also points out: “You gave her an inch and she’s taking a mile.” It's an interesting reversal from many of these calls, with Gypsy being the one giving Kristy advice and encouraging her not to feel guilty for protecting her own time and personal space. Gypsy also recalls someone she and Dee Dee knew who struggled to recognize when it was time to leave their home, which leads to a larger conversation about social cues, boundaries and privacy. Later, Kristy talks about how she's learned to cope with everything surrounding Gypsy's case. She says it doesn't consume her life the way it once did, although there are still days when it's heavily on her mind. Toward the end, they imagine what life might eventually look like when Gypsy comes home. Kristy talks about Gypsy finally having the freedom to be alone in the house, relax, have privacy and potentially spend weekends with Ken. After years of having very little privacy, Gypsy says: “I haven't had that privacy in God...” Kristy responds: “You're gonna love it.” This Mother’s Day call gives another glimpse into the everyday relationship between Gypsy and Kristy, their family dynamics, and the future they were imagining years before Gypsy's release. #GypsyRoseBlanchard #GypsyRose #KristyBlanchard #MothersDay #PrisonCalls #PrisonPhoneCalls #GypsyRosePrisonCalls #TrueCrime #TrueCrimeCommunity #TrueCrimeYouTube #BlanchardCase #PrisonLife #TrueCrimeDiscussion #TrueCrimeTok #TheBlanchardFiles
