This playlist documents an entire year of Gypsy Rose Blanchard's prison phone calls from 2018, organized chronologically so you can follow the conversations and events as they unfolded in real time. Throughout the year, you'll hear Gypsy's conversations with Kristy and Rod Blanchard, Ken Urker, family members, friends, supporters, and others in her life while she was incarcerated at Chillicothe Correctional Center in Missouri. These calls cover everything from ordinary day-to-day prison life and family updates to relationships, money, media coverage, documentaries, her criminal case, Dee Dee Blanchard, Nicholas Godejohn, future plans, and the public attention surrounding her story. Some calls are uneventful. Others contain details that become much more significant when viewed alongside later interviews, documentaries, public statements, and other records. Rather than focusing only on selected clips, this series is intended to preserve the larger context of the 2018 calls and allow viewers to hear how conversations, relationships, and stories developed throughout the year. The calls are presented chronologically, beginning in January 2018 and continuing through December 2018. Prison call recordings were obtained through a public-records request from the Missouri Department of Corrections and are being shared for commentary, documentation, research, and educational purposes.

In this May 5, 2018 call, Gypsy Rose Blanchard calls Kristy with a serious concern about Ken after her roommates begin investigating his past and questioning his intentions. The call starts much lighter. Kristy received a large package addressed to “the parents of Gypsy” from a supporter in Canada. It contains a letter and a huge assortment of homemade cookies. But neither Kristy nor Gypsy knows the sender. Their immediate concern? Could the cookies have been poisoned? Gypsy suggests having them tested “just to be on the safe side,” while Kristy worries that even testing one cookie wouldn't necessarily prove the others were safe. Then Gypsy changes the subject: “I need to talk to you about something quite serious.” She tells Kristy her head is “really, really messed up right now.” Gypsy's roommates investigate Ken Gypsy says her roommates wanted to know Ken's motives and intentions with her. According to Gypsy, one roommate's husband was good at finding information online, and the roommate's father worked for a police department. She says they conducted a background check on Ken. Gypsy says she already knew Ken had a past and had been honest with her about some previous trouble. However, she says the search allegedly uncovered something Ken had previously told her was too embarrassing to discuss. Importantly, this is Gypsy repeating information she says her roommates found. The transcript itself does not verify that the information was accurate. “Is Ken living a double life?” Then things get much more serious. Gypsy says her roommate's husband claimed to have discovered a blog allegedly connected to Ken. According to what Gypsy was told, this supposed blog contained details from conversations between Gypsy and Ken. That makes Gypsy wonder whether: “Ken is living a double life that I don't know about” and whether: “he's just with me because he's into journalism.” Again, this is extremely important: they do NOT establish in this call that the blog actually belonged to Ken or even that the information the roommate provided was accurate. Gypsy considers ending the relationship Gypsy tells Kristy that Ken's criminal history isn't really what's bothering her. Her bigger concern is whether he's using her to write a story. She says: “If he is using me, I wanna cut ties, say fuck you, be done with it.” But she also recognizes that the entire thing could be a “wild goose chase.” That's probably the strongest quote of the call. Ken's Facebook says SINGLE The investigation also leads them back to something Gypsy had literally just discussed with Ken on 05/04. His Facebook relationship status. Gypsy says her roommate looked and found that Ken's status still said: SINGLE. Kristy pulls up Ken's Facebook herself while they're talking. Gypsy explains that Ken had already told her he hadn't changed it because he didn't want people asking him a thousand questions about their relationship. That's a really interesting continuation from yesterday's call because on 05/04, Gypsy directly asked Ken why his Facebook didn't say he was in a relationship. Gypsy doesn't know who to believe This is probably the most revealing part. She tells Kristy: “My mind has doubts about my roommate. My mind has doubts about him.” “I'm doubting everything right now.” But she doesn't want to make an impulsive decision. Then: “My heart has no doubt because I'm still in love with him, but my head is like...” She says she's been “screwed over before” and can't help wondering whether it's happening again. Ultimately, Gypsy decides she's going to keep her eyes open without automatically believing her roommate: “I'm not gonna go on what my roommate says and just take her word as the gospel.” Kristy agrees to investigate further and says Dawn would be good at digging into it too.
