2018 Gypsy Rose Blanchard: The Prison Calls

This playlist documents an entire year of Gypsy Rose Blanchard's prison phone calls from 2018, organized chronologically so you can follow the conversations and events as they unfolded in real time. Throughout the year, you'll hear Gypsy's conversations with Kristy and Rod Blanchard, Ken Urker, family members, friends, supporters, and others in her life while she was incarcerated at Chillicothe Correctional Center in Missouri. These calls cover everything from ordinary day-to-day prison life and family updates to relationships, money, media coverage, documentaries, her criminal case, Dee Dee Blanchard, Nicholas Godejohn, future plans, and the public attention surrounding her story. Some calls are uneventful. Others contain details that become much more significant when viewed alongside later interviews, documentaries, public statements, and other records. Rather than focusing only on selected clips, this series is intended to preserve the larger context of the 2018 calls and allow viewers to hear how conversations, relationships, and stories developed throughout the year. The calls are presented chronologically, beginning in January 2018 and continuing through December 2018. Prison call recordings were obtained through a public-records request from the Missouri Department of Corrections and are being shared for commentary, documentation, research, and educational purposes.

Currently Playing: “24 HOURS WITH YOU WASN’T ENOUGH” | Ken Leaves Gypsy After Their 3-Day Visit | 06/10/2018

June 10, 2018. After three days and approximately 24 hours of visitation, Ken Urker's highly anticipated weekend with Gypsy Rose Blanchard has come to an end. This recording contains three separate calls between Gypsy and Ken from the final day of their visit. The first two happen before visitation, including Ken jokingly telling Gypsy that he isn't going to make it back for their second session. But the third call happens after Ken has officially left, and the tone changes. Ken admits he spent the last hour terrified that Gypsy had gotten in trouble with staff because of something they did during their visit. Although his fear turns out to be unfounded, the experience makes him realize just how easily their visitation could potentially be taken away. After spending the previous days pushing the boundaries, both Gypsy and Ken now agree they need to be more careful. Gypsy draws a firm line: one kiss at the beginning, one kiss at the end, and that's it. Ken agrees, telling her: “I can't risk losing you.” The weekend also appears to have strengthened Ken's plans to move closer. He tells Gypsy he's “coming sooner than you think” and says he wants to return for her birthday. But as Ken drives toward Kansas City to catch his flight home, reality begins setting in. They spent approximately 24 hours together over three days, and Ken admits: “I still just want more and more and more.” After weeks of anticipation, secret visitation discussions, warnings about the rules and three days together, Ken is finally leaving Missouri.
