This playlist documents an entire year of Gypsy Rose Blanchard's prison phone calls from 2018, organized chronologically so you can follow the conversations and events as they unfolded in real time. Throughout the year, you'll hear Gypsy's conversations with Kristy and Rod Blanchard, Ken Urker, family members, friends, supporters, and others in her life while she was incarcerated at Chillicothe Correctional Center in Missouri. These calls cover everything from ordinary day-to-day prison life and family updates to relationships, money, media coverage, documentaries, her criminal case, Dee Dee Blanchard, Nicholas Godejohn, future plans, and the public attention surrounding her story. Some calls are uneventful. Others contain details that become much more significant when viewed alongside later interviews, documentaries, public statements, and other records. Rather than focusing only on selected clips, this series is intended to preserve the larger context of the 2018 calls and allow viewers to hear how conversations, relationships, and stories developed throughout the year. The calls are presented chronologically, beginning in January 2018 and continuing through December 2018. Prison call recordings were obtained through a public-records request from the Missouri Department of Corrections and are being shared for commentary, documentation, research, and educational purposes.

In this May 17, 2018 call, Gypsy catches up with Bryan Golden about her new prison job, possible visitation plans, tablets and life inside Chillicothe. But toward the end of the conversation, the subject turns to Nicholas Godejohn and his upcoming trial. Gypsy loves her new job Gypsy tells Bryan she's taken over another woman's former position working with the prison's photography program. She says: “I love it. I really do love it.” She explains that the job is more complicated than she expected, with photographs cataloged using identification codes and paperwork tracking who ordered each picture, how many copies they wanted, and whether they wanted color or black-and-white prints. Gypsy says she likes the job much more than her previous one and thinks it could actually teach her useful skills. Bryan is considering visiting Gypsy Bryan asks how visitation works because he's thinking about coming to see her. Gypsy explains the Friday visitation schedule and says she will ask her caseworker whether she could request a special visit that would allow Bryan more time with her. Bryan says he's thinking about coming in early August and wants to maximize the amount of time they can spend together. They also joke about Bryan going to yard sales while he's in Missouri. 😂 Gypsy talks about reading articles about herself Gypsy recalls having limited access to approved websites while she was in county jail and finding articles about herself. Her first reaction to seeing pictures from her earliest court appearances was basically horror over her appearance. She jokes: “Oh my God, I look like a Chia Pet.” But the conversation becomes more serious when she talks about how the media covered her case. Gypsy says she was frustrated when articles continued calling Nick her “boyfriend” long after they were no longer together. She says it wasn't until after Dr. Phil and her publicly saying they weren't together that she began seeing him described as her ex-boyfriend. Then Nick's upcoming trial comes up Bryan asks about Nick, and Gypsy says he's still in county jail with his trial expected in November. Bryan asks whether she could be a witness. Gypsy says: “I could be called as one.” She explains that she'd previously received paperwork concerning a deposition before Nick's trial was rescheduled, so she believes she could still have to participate. “I have complicated feelings about him.” This is where the call gets especially interesting. Gypsy tells Bryan: “I have complicated feelings about him.” She says she had to reevaluate those feelings because someone's future could partly depend on her testimony. Then she says: “I don't want him to go to prison for the rest of his life.” Bryan immediately asks: “What do you think he should get?” Gypsy answers: “Honestly? Ten.” She then adds: “Ten or fifteen.” That's probably the biggest moment in the entire call. Gypsy explains WHY Gypsy then explains how she reached that conclusion. She says she tried putting herself in Nick's position by imagining someone she loved telling her they were being abused and asking her to kill their captor so they could be free. Gypsy asks: “If you really truly love this person, what wouldn't you do?” Obviously, that's Gypsy's reasoning during this 2018 conversation, not a legal justification for what happened. What would she say if she testified? This is another huge quote. Gypsy tells Bryan that if she's called to testify: “I'm gonna say whatever it takes to make sure that I don't nail his coffin shut.” She says she doesn't know how everything will ultimately turn out but hopes her family will support her decision not to want Nick imprisoned for the rest of his life. Gypsy specifically says she believes Rod will support her regardless: “My dad is gonna ride with me no matter what.”
