This playlist documents an entire year of Gypsy Rose Blanchard's prison phone calls from 2018, organized chronologically so you can follow the conversations and events as they unfolded in real time. Throughout the year, you'll hear Gypsy's conversations with Kristy and Rod Blanchard, Ken Urker, family members, friends, supporters, and others in her life while she was incarcerated at Chillicothe Correctional Center in Missouri. These calls cover everything from ordinary day-to-day prison life and family updates to relationships, money, media coverage, documentaries, her criminal case, Dee Dee Blanchard, Nicholas Godejohn, future plans, and the public attention surrounding her story. Some calls are uneventful. Others contain details that become much more significant when viewed alongside later interviews, documentaries, public statements, and other records. Rather than focusing only on selected clips, this series is intended to preserve the larger context of the 2018 calls and allow viewers to hear how conversations, relationships, and stories developed throughout the year. The calls are presented chronologically, beginning in January 2018 and continuing through December 2018. Prison call recordings were obtained through a public-records request from the Missouri Department of Corrections and are being shared for commentary, documentation, research, and educational purposes.

June 5, 2018. Gypsy Rose Blanchard calls Kristy Blanchard shortly after Kristy and Rod return home from their visit with her. The call begins as a simple check-in. Gypsy wants to make sure Kristy and Rod made it home safely, while Kristy talks about the long trip home and dealing with neck and shoulder pain. Then the conversation turns to Bryan Golden. Kristy tells Gypsy that she received a letter from Bryan Golden and comments that, based on the messages she has exchanged with him, “he seems real sweet.” Gypsy explains that Bryan compiled portions of some of his previous letters together so Kristy could get an idea of what he had written to Gypsy before. But toward the end of the call, another man comes up: Robert. Gypsy reveals that she tried calling Robert the previous night, but he didn't answer. Kristy says she plans to reach out to him as well and explain that Gypsy is calling for two reasons. First, she wants to know how he's doing. Second, Robert apparently still has some of Gypsy's belongings that need to be sent back. Then Gypsy makes one of the most interesting statements of the call: “I still do think about him and kind of worry about him still.” She immediately explains that she views it as simply “being human” and caring about another person. What makes the timing interesting is everything else happening around Gypsy at this point. Bryan Golden is writing her letters. Gypsy is trying to contact Robert. And Ken Urker's highly anticipated visit is only days away. What exactly should we make of all these different relationships? Listen to the call and decide for yourself.
