This playlist documents an entire year of Gypsy Rose Blanchard's prison phone calls from 2018, organized chronologically so you can follow the conversations and events as they unfolded in real time. Throughout the year, you'll hear Gypsy's conversations with Kristy and Rod Blanchard, Ken Urker, family members, friends, supporters, and others in her life while she was incarcerated at Chillicothe Correctional Center in Missouri. These calls cover everything from ordinary day-to-day prison life and family updates to relationships, money, media coverage, documentaries, her criminal case, Dee Dee Blanchard, Nicholas Godejohn, future plans, and the public attention surrounding her story. Some calls are uneventful. Others contain details that become much more significant when viewed alongside later interviews, documentaries, public statements, and other records. Rather than focusing only on selected clips, this series is intended to preserve the larger context of the 2018 calls and allow viewers to hear how conversations, relationships, and stories developed throughout the year. The calls are presented chronologically, beginning in January 2018 and continuing through December 2018. Prison call recordings were obtained through a public-records request from the Missouri Department of Corrections and are being shared for commentary, documentation, research, and educational purposes.

On July 2, 2018, Gypsy Rose Blanchard calls Ken Urker and what begins as a casual conversation quickly turns into an update about escalating tension between Gypsy and her roommate, Tasha. The call begins with Gypsy telling Ken that she loves him and Ken revealing that he wrote her a long email for the first time. There's just one problem. According to Gypsy, emails haven't been getting printed because the facility was sent the wrong ink cartridges. Ken jokes that no matter what he does, his letters never seem to make it to her. They discuss their upcoming Fourth of July plans before Gypsy tells Ken about her weekend, including getting her previously botched haircut fixed and deciding to wait until fall before changing her hair color. Ken tells Gypsy about some of his upcoming plans, including possibly visiting a wolf sanctuary. Then the tone completely changes. Gypsy tells Ken: “Me and Tasha almost got into it last night.” According to Gypsy, the roommates were having a discussion about problems in their room when Tasha became defensive. Gypsy claims Tasha got off her bunk and approached her as though she might hit her. Gypsy says she stood her ground. Then she tells Ken about a comment she says Tasha made to her: “I know you’ve been a victim your whole life, and I hope you are the victim the rest of your life.” Gypsy admits: “I wanted to hit her so freaking bad.” Ken immediately tells her not to do it and warns her not to end up in segregation over the confrontation. Gypsy says the situation eventually calmed down, but she's still considering requesting a different room because she's tired of “walking on eggshells.” Ken believes Tasha's issue with Gypsy may be personal. He speculates that part of the resentment could come from similarities between their crimes but major differences in the sentences they received. Ken makes it clear that this is only his opinion and acknowledges that everything he knows about Tasha comes from what Gypsy has told him. The conversation eventually becomes much lighter as Gypsy and Ken joke about what it might eventually be like to live together. Gypsy admits that her long hair sheds everywhere, leading Ken to joke about having to tell her to clean her hair off the pillow and out of the drain. Gypsy reminds him that she's never lived with a man before, meaning neither of them really knows what living together will be like. Gypsy also reveals that she sent Ken a letter containing approximately 13 or 14 questions about their future life together. One of those questions? What kind of mattress does Ken want? That leads to a very Ken-style explanation about why he doesn't want memory foam before they move on to how many pillows he sleeps with. Ken says he normally sleeps with multiple pillows, including one he holds in his arms. But if Gypsy is there? He tells her he won't need that one anymore. The call ends with the two exchanging “I love you” and planning to talk again before Ken's upcoming day off.
