This playlist documents an entire year of Gypsy Rose Blanchard's prison phone calls from 2018, organized chronologically so you can follow the conversations and events as they unfolded in real time. Throughout the year, you'll hear Gypsy's conversations with Kristy and Rod Blanchard, Ken Urker, family members, friends, supporters, and others in her life while she was incarcerated at Chillicothe Correctional Center in Missouri. These calls cover everything from ordinary day-to-day prison life and family updates to relationships, money, media coverage, documentaries, her criminal case, Dee Dee Blanchard, Nicholas Godejohn, future plans, and the public attention surrounding her story. Some calls are uneventful. Others contain details that become much more significant when viewed alongside later interviews, documentaries, public statements, and other records. Rather than focusing only on selected clips, this series is intended to preserve the larger context of the 2018 calls and allow viewers to hear how conversations, relationships, and stories developed throughout the year. The calls are presented chronologically, beginning in January 2018 and continuing through December 2018. Prison call recordings were obtained through a public-records request from the Missouri Department of Corrections and are being shared for commentary, documentation, research, and educational purposes.

On June 26, 2018, what begins as a fairly normal conversation between Gypsy Rose Blanchard and Ken Urker turns into a surprisingly revealing discussion about their relationship. Ken initially jokes that he's going to Peru for a month and won't be able to communicate with Gypsy. He quickly admits he's joking, although he says the trip was actually offered to him and he turned it down. Then Ken brings up something much more serious: his planned move. Ken still says he intends to relocate, but now thinks it would make more financial sense to remain in Seattle through the summer while he's earning more money and move closer to the fall. He repeatedly assures Gypsy that his desire to move hasn't changed and that he isn't getting “cold feet.” But later, Gypsy reveals that she's already been questioning whether something has changed. After Ken repeatedly missed her calls, Gypsy became frustrated and wrote him an angry letter. She agrees to read the letter to him during the call. In it, Gypsy accuses Ken of becoming increasingly vague about his everyday life and questions why she doesn't know more about his housing plans. Then she tells him: “Ever since you got back to Seattle, you’ve been different.” But the letter becomes much more emotional. Gypsy admits she's tired and frustrated with her situation and tells Ken she sometimes feels as though she doesn't fit into his life. She even wonders whether she's someone he could be ashamed to be associated with. She admits she's been having nightmares again and describes herself as emotionally unstable while writing the letter. Ken doesn't brush it off. Instead, he goes through her concerns one by one. He explains why he hasn't given her a new address, why his answers about his daily life might sound vague, and insists that he isn't hiding anything from her. Then Gypsy finally explains where some of her fear is coming from: Robert. She tells Ken that when Robert wanted to end their relationship, he gradually became unavailable. His mailing address disappeared, he stopped answering as frequently, and eventually communication stopped altogether. Gypsy admits that Ken missing her calls and discussing another move triggered some of those same fears. Ken tells her that if he ever wanted to end their relationship, he would simply tell her. He wouldn't slowly disappear or secretly try to cut her off. The conversation then becomes an extended discussion about trust, insecurity and how much they actually know about one another. Gypsy explains that she wants to know the tiny details of Ken's life, down to what he might normally be doing at a particular time of night. She feels Ken knows those details about her while she doesn't know the same things about him. Ken offers a solution: Gypsy should write him a letter filled with every question she wants answered, and he'll respond to all of them. The conversation ultimately ends up far more reassuring than it began. Ken tells Gypsy he doesn't care about the version of her portrayed in headlines or what other people think about their relationship. He says he knows the person he's gotten to know personally and tells her: “I wanna have a life with you. Do you wanna have a life with me?” Gypsy answers that it's all she wants. This call gives a revealing look at the insecurities already developing in their relationship in June 2018, particularly Gypsy's fear that Ken could eventually become distant and disappear from her life.
