This playlist documents an entire year of Gypsy Rose Blanchard's prison phone calls from 2018, organized chronologically so you can follow the conversations and events as they unfolded in real time. Throughout the year, you'll hear Gypsy's conversations with Kristy and Rod Blanchard, Ken Urker, family members, friends, supporters, and others in her life while she was incarcerated at Chillicothe Correctional Center in Missouri. These calls cover everything from ordinary day-to-day prison life and family updates to relationships, money, media coverage, documentaries, her criminal case, Dee Dee Blanchard, Nicholas Godejohn, future plans, and the public attention surrounding her story. Some calls are uneventful. Others contain details that become much more significant when viewed alongside later interviews, documentaries, public statements, and other records. Rather than focusing only on selected clips, this series is intended to preserve the larger context of the 2018 calls and allow viewers to hear how conversations, relationships, and stories developed throughout the year. The calls are presented chronologically, beginning in January 2018 and continuing through December 2018. Prison call recordings were obtained through a public-records request from the Missouri Department of Corrections and are being shared for commentary, documentation, research, and educational purposes.

In this June 18, 2018 conversation, Gypsy Rose Blanchard checks in with Ken Urker while he's at work, and what starts as a casual conversation quickly turns into Ken opening up about how exhausted and stressed he has become. Ken tells Gypsy he's only sleeping about four hours a night and says he's tired of constantly working and living in a city where he doesn't want to be. He describes his routine as: “Work, work, fucking work, work, work, fucking work.” Gypsy tells him he needs a vacation, but Ken points out that he just had one. When Gypsy says his recent time with her doesn't really count as a vacation because he was spending it with her, Ken immediately responds: “Well, that IS my fucking vacation.” Ken explains that part of the problem is that he has trouble saying no when his job asks him to work extra hours. At the same time, he admits that the additional money is hard to turn down because he's trying to save for his upcoming move. For Ken, he says the “greater good” behind all the extra work is getting himself out of his current situation and moving. Gypsy worries that he's trying to make the move happen too quickly and tells him to slow down, save money gradually and stop pushing himself so hard. Then she finally admits: “Cause I just miss you too much.” Ken responds: “I miss you too, babe.” Ken eventually walks back some of what he said, telling Gypsy that he's exaggerating and everything is fine. Gypsy jokes that she does the exact same thing when she's stressed: “I’m fine. No, not really, but I’m just gonna tell you that’s me.” They make plans to talk again the following night when Ken is finally off work and end the conversation exchanging “I love you.” DISCLAIMER: This audio was obtained from the Missouri Department of Corrections through a Missouri Sunshine Law public-record request.
