2018 Gypsy Rose Blanchard: The Prison Calls

This playlist documents an entire year of Gypsy Rose Blanchard's prison phone calls from 2018, organized chronologically so you can follow the conversations and events as they unfolded in real time. Throughout the year, you'll hear Gypsy's conversations with Kristy and Rod Blanchard, Ken Urker, family members, friends, supporters, and others in her life while she was incarcerated at Chillicothe Correctional Center in Missouri. These calls cover everything from ordinary day-to-day prison life and family updates to relationships, money, media coverage, documentaries, her criminal case, Dee Dee Blanchard, Nicholas Godejohn, future plans, and the public attention surrounding her story. Some calls are uneventful. Others contain details that become much more significant when viewed alongside later interviews, documentaries, public statements, and other records. Rather than focusing only on selected clips, this series is intended to preserve the larger context of the 2018 calls and allow viewers to hear how conversations, relationships, and stories developed throughout the year. The calls are presented chronologically, beginning in January 2018 and continuing through December 2018. Prison call recordings were obtained through a public-records request from the Missouri Department of Corrections and are being shared for commentary, documentation, research, and educational purposes.

Currently Playing: “I DIDN’T WANT THE MURDER TO HAPPEN” | Gypsy Tells Bryan About “Angel” | 04/10/2018

In this April 10, 2018 prison call, Gypsy Rose Blanchard talks with Bryan Golden and gives him the full story of her recent face-to-face meeting with Tanya, also known as “Angel” — someone Gypsy says she originally knew online before Dee Dee Blanchard's murder. Gypsy says she went into the visit nervous because she wasn't completely certain Angel was the same person she remembered. During the visit, Angel finally reveals that they had actually known each other years earlier after connecting through dating profiles online. Gypsy tells Bryan, “I was right. I so freaking called it.” According to Gypsy, she met Nick first and later asked Angel to give her opinion of him. Gypsy says Angel told her she got “bad vibes” from Nick. Gypsy didn't like the answer, blocked Angel on Facebook, and stopped talking to her. But Gypsy says that shortly before the murder, she reconnected with Angel and told her what was happening at home. She remembers asking her: “Can you just come kidnap me? Like, please just come take me away.” Gypsy claims Angel sought advice from an attorney friend and even searched the area near the zoo for the pink house Gypsy had described. After finally meeting Angel again in prison, Gypsy describes her as “a sweet person” and says she could see them being friends. She tells Bryan that the visit ended well and that she invited Angel to come back so they could spend more time together and take a picture. The conversation then takes an even more significant turn when Gypsy reflects on the days leading up to Dee Dee's death: “I really didn't want that to happen. I didn't want the murder to happen.” She describes what she told Angel as “a cry for help” and says she was becoming desperate as it felt like a choice had to be made. Later, Gypsy talks about her mandatory Impact of Crime on Victims (ICVC) class. She says the course teaches inmates to take accountability and identifies Dee Dee and Nick as her primary victims. She also discusses an upcoming exercise where she will have to imagine what her mother might say to her about being murdered. The call also includes discussion of the proposed By Proxy television series, possible actresses who could portray Gypsy, Bryan potentially visiting her in prison, quitting cigarettes, and everyday prison life. #GypsyRoseBlanchard #GypsyRose #DeeDeeBlanchard #NicholasGodejohn #PrisonCalls #TrueCrime #TrueCrimeCommunity #BryanGolden #TheBlanchardFiles #PrisonAudio #CrimeDiscussion #TrueCrimeYouTube
