Saving for retirement. We're all told to do it. But does it actually make sense anymore? The math never worked for most of us. Ten percent of your paycheque doesn't beat inflation. You'd need to save 20 to 30 percent and invest it perfectly just to have a shot — and that's before factoring in that Social Security probably won't be there when you get to it. Pensions are basically gone. The retirement age keeps getting pushed back. And now AI is coming for the jobs. If nobody's working, they're going to have to give people something to live on. Universal basic income. If that happens, the whole reason to save collapses anyway. So what are we actually doing here? Grinding away your whole life for a number in an account — or buying a house and actually living while you can?
