Nobody warned me about this part of life. As a kid I thought being an adult meant freedom. Nobody told me it mostly means being tired, being alone, and doing it all anyway. Nobody warned me the friends just go. One by one, no fight, no reason, they fade year after year. And making new ones becomes almost impossible. You look up one day and there's nobody left. Nobody warned me I'd stop looking forward to things. As a kid everything was anticipation, there was always something coming. Now the calendar's just more of the same, and the wanting-something part quietly switched off. Nobody warned me the days would blur. I blink and a year's gone. The weeks stop being different from each other and there's nothing to mark the time passing. You can't remember what you did with any of it. And nobody warned me how quiet it gets. No calls, nobody checking in. I could go a long time before anyone noticed. That's the part they leave out when they tell you to grow up. What's the part of adulthood nobody warned you about?
