I'm burnt out and so is everyone I know. I don't think I've felt properly rested in about two years, and I'm not the only one. I hear it in everybody around me now. The way guys talk about the job changed. It used to be a joke when someone said they hoped they'd get fired. Now they say it flat, not laughing, and they mean it. Labourers, office guys, people with easy jobs, doesn't matter. Everybody seems to be waiting for something to end it for them. And I think a big part of it is the math. Six years, a few hundred grand through my hands, and I'm still in the hole. You can't see progress no matter how hard you go, because everything gets more expensive and the finish line just keeps moving further out. That's what actually kills the drive. Not the work itself. It didn't start in my body either. Mentally fried first, so you stop eating right, you sleep bad, and then you're physically wrecked too. It compounds. I'll own this part too. Everybody's hunting for meaning right now, me included, and I've been looking for it in places that don't fill it. At this point I'm not burnt out from one bad stretch. This is just what I am now.
