I only get two days a week to live and even those two aren't really mine. Five days belong to the job. And nobody forced that on me. I said yes to it. Then I actually looked at what the two days are. Saturday is groceries, laundry, errands, all the life I couldn't live Monday to Friday. Sunday afternoon the dread already starts, so half of that one's gone too. It's not five and two. It's more like six and a half and a few hours. I started working at fifteen. I'm thirty four now. That's already half my life, and if everything goes well I've got thirty more years of it. Saying that out loud sounds insane. So why does it sound normal when nobody says it? And here's the part I can't get my head around. The guys I work with take the weekend shifts and nobody's making them. I'm one of the only ones who says no, and that makes me the strange one. We hand back the only two days we've got. The deal was grind now and live later. But the guys who make it to the end don't all get the health to enjoy it. How many hours this week were actually yours? Count them. That's your life. Subscribe if you're counting the same hours I am. This is Outside The Order. #outsidetheorder #realtalk #workingclass #burnout #worklife
