Nobody at work is actually your friend. I know that sounds harsh but just hear me out. I was working with a guy one day and I asked him if he ever hung out with his best friend from work outside the job. The two of them were always joking around, inside jokes, laughing every day — looked like the closest guys on the crew. He looked at me like I asked the dumbest question in the world. Why would I hang out with him outside of work? We just talk at work. That hit me. If those two — the closest guys on site — don't even see each other as real friends, what does that say about the rest of us? There's a group chat. There's jokes, memes, everyone laughing. And not one person has made plans on a weekend. Not once. It gives you this impression that you've got people around you when in reality the second you leave that job you're gone. They might even talk shit about you on the way out. Work friends are just people you're stuck in the same room with.
