Currently Playing: Nothing I Buy Lasts Anymore

Nothing I buy lasts anymore. My parents' fridge is still running. Mine won't make ten years. And I think that's a big reason I never get ahead. Look at phones. Over a thousand dollars and you get maybe three years out of it. It slows down right after the warranty, the battery dies and you can't replace it, and somehow you've owned four or five of them in a ten-year span. Cars are the most expensive they've ever been and the worst they've ever lasted. Huge money, constant repairs, and the electronics fail long before the engine does. You never really own it, you just owe on it. Same with everything in the house. The TV starts glitching after a couple years. Washers, dryers, fridges last seven to ten years now instead of thirty, and when they break the repair costs more than replacing. And you can't even fix anything yourself anymore. Glued shut, no parts, cheaper to just buy new. It sure feels built that way. Here's the part that gets me. I'm not bad with money. I just keep re-buying the same things I already bought. Stuff that used to be a one-time purchase is a subscription in disguise now, and every dollar goes toward replacing instead of getting ahead. What's the last thing you bought that actually lasted? Subscribe if this hit home. This is Outside The Order. #planned obsolescence #workingclass #inflation #realtalk #outsidetheorder
