On the 146th day, Duke and I continued our journey west from Yakawlang, Afghanistan, by hitchhiking. Even though I had been warned that this was a deserted, bad and dangerous route, we still persisted in trying. Initially we managed to catch a truck to the end of the Yakawlang district. Then we took a car to Zarin. On the road you can see the trees have turned yellow. Soon it will be winter. Zarin is a fertile area. The driver told me that almost the entire population here grows potatoes. In Baghalak we had to change vehicles. We entered a barren area. Several times we saw groups of nomads who seemed to be moving on their donkeys. Of course, there were also small villages that we passed. It seems that many people settled in the western Hindu Kush mountains. The road begins to climb to an altitude of 3400 meters above sea level. The bad and sandy road makes it difficult for cars to climb. Passengers got out and helped push the car so it could climb up. Unexpectedly, when we caught up with the car, the driver said the car was broken and the engine couldn't start. He started asking us for money to compensate his "broken" car. I suspect the car was deliberately "damaged" by the driver because the driver started to intimidate us into paying huge fees. He started smoking hashish (a drug), and took out an iron rod and banged it on the car seat while demanding money. Finally we were forced to pay 4000 Afghanis and $20 to be allowed to leave. My friend said it was better to continue walking than to freeze to death in the middle of the mountain, because the sun was receding and snow was starting to fall. We made our way through the Hindu Kush in a freezing cold weather. Even though we hadn't eaten since the night before. It's not surprising that the mountain range is called the Hindu Kush, "Killer of Indians", because allegedly many Indian slaves died passing through this terrain in the past. But this time we were still lucky. After walking 5 kilometers, we found a small settlement and were allowed to stay for free. With the blankets provided, even though our stomachs were still empty, we were finally able to fall asleep soundly. Tomorrow we planned to continue hiking 20 km to Kirman, the nearest town. ___ Stage 1 Route - Sumatra (DONE!): Jakarta - Bandar Lampung - Baturaja - Lahat - Pagar Alam - Bengkulu - Lebong Tandai - Kerinci - Jambi - Kuala Tungkal - Batam - Johor Bahru Stage 2 Route - ASEAN Mainland (DONE!): Johor Bahru - Kuala Tahan - Kota Bharu - Su-Ngai Kolok - Nakhon Si Thammarat - Chaiya - Nakhon Pathom - Bangkok - Nakhon Ratchasima - Phimai - Nong Khai - Vientiane - Vang Vieng - Luang Prabang - Chiang Rai - Chiang Mai - Pai - Chiang Mai - Chiang Rai - Boten - Kunming, China Stage 3 Route - China (DONE!): Kunming - Dali - Lijiang - Shangri-La - Shambala - Litang - Chengdu - Leshan - Chengdu - Xi'an - Zhangye - Jiayuguan - Dunhuang - Turpan - Urumqi - Almaty, Kazakhstan Stage 4 Route - Central Asia (DONE!): Almaty - Shymkent - Tashkent - Nukus - Muynak - Turtkul - Khiva - Bukhara - Samarkand - Tashkent - Khujand - Fann Mountains - Dushanbe - Kunduz, Afghanistan Stage 5 Route - Afghanistan: Kunduz - Samangan - Mazar-i-Sharif - Balkh - Kabul - Bamiyan - Band-e Amir - Yakawlang - Lal - Chagcharan - Herat - Mashhad, Iran *Follow my Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/obeysianipar/) for direct messages **Message me for sponsorship --- Music Credits: And Awaken - Stings by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/.
