On the 194th day, I traveled to Wadi Musa, which hosts the number one World Heritage Site in Jordan, Petra. The plan was to tour Petra the next day. I started the morning by climbing one of the hills in Wadi Rum to watch the sunrise. I could slightly imagine what it would be like to see the sunrise on Mars. Yet, on Mars, the sun would look smaller. After sunrise, I returned to the tent to eat breakfast and pack my bags. The host dropped me at the Wadi Rum visitor center to catch a 9:30 a.m. bus to Petra. It cost 10 Jordan Dinars per person, which was quite expensive for a 2.5-hour journey. I noticed that local people who took it seemed to pay less, but this overpricing targeted tourists even though it was a public bus and not a tourist bus. I paid 50 dinars and got change. I was amazed to see the 20 dinar note features the Dome of the Rock. Perhaps it's because the holy site in Jerusalem is still under the custodianship of the king of Jordan to this day. The bus ride climbed uphill across the southern part of the Jordanian Highlands. The bus traveled along a mountain ridge at 1600 meters above sea level. On top, there was a wind farm. At noon, I arrived at Wadi Musa, a town that got its name from the biblical story of water coming out of a rock that Musa knocked on. Allegedly, the flow formed Wadi Musa, the Valley of Moses. I stayed at the Edom Hotel, which is very close to the entrance to Petra. The name Edom is used because this area was under Edom's control before it reached its golden age during the Nabataean period. There are many remains of rock carvings in Petra. But I will only visit it tomorrow. That evening, I enjoyed the cave carved in the hotel restaurant. ___ Stage 1 Route - Sumatra (DONE!): Jakarta - Bandar Lampung - Baturaja - Lahat - Pagar Alam - Bengkulu - Lebong Tandai - Kerinci - Jambi - Kuala Tungkal - Batam - Johor Bahru Stage 2 Route - ASEAN Mainland (DONE!): Johor Bahru - Kuala Tahan - Kota Bharu - Su-Ngai Kolok - Nakhon Si Thammarat - Chaiya - Nakhon Pathom - Bangkok - Nakhon Ratchasima - Phimai - Nong Khai - Vientiane - Vang Vieng - Luang Prabang - Chiang Rai - Chiang Mai - Pai - Chiang Mai - Chiang Rai - Boten - Kunming, China Stage 3 Route - China (DONE!): Kunming - Dali - Lijiang - Shangri-La - Shambala - Litang - Chengdu - Leshan - Chengdu - Xi'an - Zhangye - Jiayuguan - Dunhuang - Turpan - Urumqi - Almaty, Kazakhstan Stage 4 Route - Central Asia (DONE!): Almaty - Shymkent - Tashkent - Nukus - Muynak - Turtkul - Khiva - Bukhara - Samarkand - Tashkent - Khujand - Fann Mountains - Dushanbe - Kunduz, Afghanistan Stage 5 Route - Afghanistan (DONE!): Kunduz - Samangan - Mazar-i-Sharif - Balkh - Kabul - Bamiyan - Band-e Amir - Yakawlang - Lal - Chagcharan - Herat - Mashhad, Iran Stage 6 Route - Iran (DONE): Mashhad - Tehran - Isfahan - Persepolis - Shiraz - Ahvaz - Shalamcheh Border - Shushtar - Shush - Bandar Abbas - Sharjah, UAE Stage 7 Route (DONE) - Arabian Peninsula: Sharjah - Dubai - Abu Dhabi - Riyadh - Jeddah - Madinah - AlUla - Hegra - Tabuk - Haql - Aqaba, Jordan Stage 8 Route - Jordan and Egypt: Aqaba - Wadi Rum - Petra - Amman - Jerash - Mount Nebo - Madaba - Dead Sea - Nuweiba - Giza - Cairo - Saqqara *Follow my Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/obeysianipar/) for direct messages **Message me for sponsorship --- Music Credits: And Awaken - Stings by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/. --- Chapters: 00:00 Prologue 00:22 Morning in Wadi Rum 06:37 The King's Highway 14:25 Wadi Musa 17:37 Edom Hotel, Petra
