On the 131st day I planned to hike to Iskanderkul, Lake Alexander the Great. From Sarytag it takes 3 hours of hiking to reach this lake. Mahmoud, the owner of the guesthouse, was worried that I would not be able to do this hiking with my body condition which was still poor due to the injuries I received from hiking the previous day. He offered to take me for free to Iskanderkul, where I planned to continue looking for a ride from there. Unexpectedly, after reaching Iskanderkul, Mahmoud continued driving and said he would take me to the main road near Sarvoda which is 36 kilometers from Sarytag. On the main road I got a ride on a sand truck bound for Dushanbe. The journey, which could be taken in 1.5 hours, took 3 hours for the truck because the road climbs across the mountains. The sand truck stopped briefly at one of the depots but finally continued until it reached Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan. Here I plan to rest for a few days to recover my strength and look for information about the route to Afghanistan. Luckily at the hostel I met two German guys who had just passed through Afghanistan. The first one cycled from Iran to Tajikistan via Afghanistan. Meanwhile, the other one rode a motorbike from Pakistan via Afghanistan to Tajikistan. Both assured me that Afghanistan is currently relatively safe. I also met a Catalan who was planning to go to Afghanistan. Hopefully we can go together.
