On the 143rd day, at noon, I continued the 4 hour journey to Bamyan. The road is asphalt except for one section that is being repaired. Entering the Bamiyan Valley, we were greeted by the ruins of Schahr-e Zuhak, a walled city that once flourished in the 10th to 13th centuries. This place is also known as the Red City because of the ruins of city buildings which have returned to red soil. 15 kilometers later we arrived in the city center of Bamiyan.
