On the 117th day I returned to Tashkent by public bus. From the hostel I ordered a taxi at a special price to get to the bus station. I highly recommend Hostel Uzbekistan (Hostel.Uz) to anyone looking for a budget hostel in Samarkand. The service is very good, the place is clean, there is a kitchen for cooking and a washing machine for washing clothes. Buses to Tashkent leave from the station next to Ulugh Beg Observatory. The price is only 50,000 Som, much cheaper than trains which can be twice as much. The journey is longer (5 hours), but if you are not in a hurry I think the bus is a good option. The bus departs once it is fully filled. Luckily when I arrived it was almost full, so I only had to wait 15 minutes. Maybe if you come too early you can wait more than 1 hour. On the way the bus stopped at the gas station (methane). I went out to enjoy the view and sunlight. I could feel the summer coming to an end. It looks like I have to hurry to Tajikistan if I want to go to the Pamir mountains, which have an average altitude of 3000 meters above sea level, before the weather got too cold. The bus arrived in Tashkent exactly 5 hours after departing from Samarkand. At the bus station I happened to meet Nikita (pictured in the cover), a Russian with whom I had chatted a lot in Tashkent. It seems like there were a lot of chance encounters in Uzbekistan. Although the bus terminal is on the southern outskirts of Tashkent, passengers only need to pass through the underpass to reach the metro station which can take them to Tashkent city center. I enjoyed the Tashkent metro station which was partly built during the Soviet Union era and was the first MRT in Central Asia. Each new station now has a specific theme. Some of the trains are still old models while the newer ones look more modern. I plan to spend a few days in Tashkent to fight for my Afghanistan visa again. Hopefully next week I can continue to Tajikistan. ___ Sumatra Stage 1 Route (DONE!): Jakarta - Bandar Lampung - Baturaja - Lahat - Pagar Alam - Bengkulu - Lebong Tandai - Kerinci - Jambi - Kuala Tungkal - Batam - Johor Bahru ASEAN Mainland Stage 2 Route (DONE!): Johor Bahru - Kuala Tahan - Kota Bharu - Su-Ngai Kolok - Nakhon Si Thammarat - Chaiya - Nakhon Pathom - Bangkok - Nakhon Ratchasima - Phimai - Nong Khai - Vientiane - Vang Vieng - Luang Prabang - Chiang Rai - Chiang Mai - Pai - Chiang Mai - Chiang Rai - Boten - Kunming, China China Stage 3 Route (DONE!): Kunming - Dali - Lijiang - Shangri-La - Shambala - Litang - Chengdu - Leshan - Chengdu - Xi'an - Zhangye - Jiayuguan - Dunhuang - Turpan - Urumqi - Almaty, Kazakhstan Stage 4 Central Asia Route: Almaty - Shymkent - Tashkent - Nukus - Muynak - Turtkul - Khiva - Bukhara - Samarkand - Tashkent - Khujand - Fann Mountains - Dushanbe - Kunduz, Afghanistan *Follow my Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/obeysianipar/) for direct messages **Message me for sponsorship --- Music Credits: And Awaken - Stings by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/.
