On the 109th day I departed from Nukus to Turtkul, the capital of Karakalpakstan before being transferred to Nukus. The move of the capital was due to changes in the flow of the Amu Darya River which often changed and flooded Turtkul. I went to Turtkul because I was invited by my new friend (who I met on the train two days ago) to stay at his house and to explore Urgench and Khiva (close to Turtkul) together. The journey to Turtkul traversed the southern side of the Kyzilkum desert and passesed by Karakalpakstan's icon, Chilpik Dakhma Kala (a Zoroastrian tower from 2000 years ago). The last stop of the bus was Biruni (Kats), the hometown of Al-Biruni, a Muslim scholar who wrote about the history of India which he visited in the early 11th century. Allegedly, he is often referred to as the father of Comparative Religion because of his writings which often compare religions impartially. From Biruni I changed buses to Turtkul, about a 30-minute journey to the east. This is where I was received as a guest at Rasul's house.
