On the 155th day I continued my adventure to the capital of Iran by train from Mashhad. Once again I was surprised by the cheapness of transportation in Iran. The price of a train ticket for 900 km distance was only 2,640,000 Iranian Rial or around Rp. 80,000. The economy carriage seats were relatively soft and one cabin could accommodate 6 people. I met local people who were very friendly and shared their food with us. The train left at 4:20pm and I got to see the view from the train as we left Mashhad. After leaving the city, the scenery became a desert that seemed to be planted in spring. Miraculously, this rural area still had a relatively good 4G signal, very different from Central Asian countries where there was almost no internet signal during the train journey. At 6 pm the train stopped for 20 minutes in Neyshabur for passengers to pray. Ancient Nishapur was one of the Four Great Cities of Khorasan, along with Merv in Turkmenistan and Herat and Balkh in Afghanistan. Initially I wanted to take some time to explore this city. But it seems that modern Nishapur doesn't have many interesting remains (apart from Umar Khayyam's Tomb) so I decided to just skip it. Once it got dark, the train seats were converted into relatively comfortable 3-storeyed beds.
