On the 145th day I hiked around Band-e Amir National Park to prove whether it was true that Band-e Amir is the most beautiful lake in the world. Band-e Amir is a travertine lake, which is one of a kind in the world. The water comes out of the ground and has a high mineral content. Over time these minerals harden and slowly form a natural dam in the middle of Afghanistan's version of the "Grand Canyon". To have a wider view, I climbed to one of the cliffs that flank this lake. I continued walking until I reached the end of the second lake which is also known as Band-e Kaybulat. From above, I can see other small lakes along with gardens with trees. It is said that there are 6 or 7 lakes here, but only 3 are big so people prefer to call them the first, second and third lakes. At the end, I saw a bit of the third lake. I then walked closer to the third lake which is the actual Band-e-Amir. This lake is the largest. From a certain angle, I can see the splendor of this lake. From there, there is now a path down to the lakeside park. I can see local people taking duck boats to fish on the lake. I climbed back up to the eastern edge of the lake and could see the central commercial area of Band-e Amir. The first lake is visible in the distance.
