On day 127, I started my journey to the Fann Mountains, one of the most beautiful hiking spots in Central Asia. After having a full rest the day before in Khujand, at 8 am I left by Asian Express bus (80 Somoni) heading to Dushanbe. The bus traveled across mountains as high as 3000 meters on smooth asphalt roads. We passed past Ayni, where the road to its west leads to Panjakent, Tajikistan's other major city. But we continued south for another 26 kilometers until I got off at Sarvoda. From Sarvoda to Vertikal Alauddin Basecamp is still 28 kilometers away and a 4WD car is needed to reach it. I decided to save money by walking there with a backpack weighing almost 15 kg. Luckily, after walking for more than 3 km, I met "Bobo", a local person who gave me a lift until I arrived at his house. I was dropped off further from his house, in the village at the end of the road, Marguzar. From there I had to walk uphill another 18 kilometers. Beautiful views accompanied me throughout the journey. On the way I found another group of hikers setting up tents. It looked like they split this 28 km trip into two days. Further along I found a traditional village perched on the edge of a hill. There was a child who came out and seemed to invite me to stop by his stone-walled house. But my destination was still a few km ahead and I decided to push on. I arrived at Vertikal Alauddin Basecamp at 7pm, which turned out to be closed because the climbing season had just ended. I returned to the nearest settlement and 3 women accompanied me to trespass into the basecamp and they showed me a place to sleep. Half-an-hour later the basecamp guard came and asked for 30 Somoni for basecamp facilities (mattress, blanket, toilet).
