On the 171st day I continued my journey to the ruins of the city of Susa, the capital of ancient Elam and Persia which is mentioned several times in the Bible. From Shushtar there is no public transport or shared-taxi to Shush, the small town where Susa is located. Therefore I had to make a detour through Dezful. In Shush, I was dropped off by a taxi driver on the edge of town. Luckily a nice person gave me a lift to the center of Shush, right in front of Susa World Heritage Site. After paying an entrance ticket of 1.5 million Rials ($3), I visited the remaining ruins of Susa which were said to have been destroyed by the Mongols in the early 13th century so that almost nothing remains of Darius's Apadana palace. It's not as good as Persepolis. However, visitors can still see the remaining foundations of the pillars and even the foundation of Darius' throne. If Xerxes also sat on the same throne, this place is the setting for the story of Queen Esther. Remains of the more ancient city of Susa were also discovered by French archaeologists. For example, the city of Susa from the ancient Elamite period (1900-1500 BC) can be seen in the 15th excavation layer. Near Susa there is an ancient style fort which was built at the end of the 19th century as a basecamp for French archaeologists and to "protect" their findings. Many of the finds there were brought to Europe. However, later finds are now housed in a museum near the site. For example, Elamite clay statues from that time were kept there. Interestingly there are also remains of talisman bowls with Aramaic and Hebrew inscriptions, referring to the Jewish community in Susa. It is claiemd that this community has existed since Daniel's time. Locals believe that Daniel's tomb is in Susa and is not far from Susa Archaeological Site. I visited Daniel's Tomb with its unique dome. Inside is Daniel's grave, although his body is believed to have been drowned in the river for various reasons. After completing the pilgrimage, I returned to Ahvaz, the capital of Khuzestan to spend the night there. For tomorrow, I planned to take a bus to Bandar Abbas to look for a ferry to the Arabian Peninsula. ___ Stage 1 Route - Sumatra (DONE!): Jakarta - Bandar Lampung - Baturaja - Lahat - Pagar Alam - Bengkulu - Lebong Tandai - Kerinci - Jambi - Kuala Tungkal - Batam - Johor Bahru Stage 2 Route - ASEAN Mainland (DONE!): Johor Bahru - Kuala Tahan - Kota Bharu - Su-Ngai Kolok - Nakhon Si Thammarat - Chaiya - Nakhon Pathom - Bangkok - Nakhon Ratchasima - Phimai - Nong Khai - Vientiane - Vang Vieng - Luang Prabang - Chiang Rai - Chiang Mai - Pai - Chiang Mai - Chiang Rai - Boten - Kunming, China Stage 3 Route - China (DONE!): Kunming - Dali - Lijiang - Shangri-La - Shambala - Litang - Chengdu - Leshan - Chengdu - Xi'an - Zhangye - Jiayuguan - Dunhuang - Turpan - Urumqi - Almaty, Kazakhstan Stage 4 Route - Central Asia (DONE!): Almaty - Shymkent - Tashkent - Nukus - Muynak - Turtkul - Khiva - Bukhara - Samarkand - Tashkent - Khujand - Fann Mountains - Dushanbe - Kunduz, Afghanistan Stage 5 Route - Afghanistan (DONE!): Kunduz - Samangan - Mazar-i-Sharif - Balkh - Kabul - Bamiyan - Band-e Amir - Yakawlang - Lal - Chagcharan - Herat - Mashhad, Iran Stage 6 Route - Iran: Mashhad - Tehran - Isfahan - Persepolis - Shiraz - Ahvaz - Shalamcheh Border - Shushtar - Shush - Bandar Abbas - Sharjah, UAE *Follow my Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/obeysianipar/) for direct messages **Message me for sponsorship --- Music Credits: And Awaken - Stings by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/.
