On the 147th day I continued the long journey to Lal, where I hoped that in that city I could find a money changer and also a ride to Herat. After being mugged the day before until I ran out of money and not eating all day, finally this morning I was hosted by Hussein, a teacher in Sinya Village. Despite not being fluent in English, this teacher from Bamiyan hosted us at his school and gave Duke and I bread and hot tea. Finally we were able to recover a little energy to continue the 20 km journey to the nearest town. We were given a ride on a tractor by a local resident until we left the village. Even though it's only about 2 kilometers, it still helped because the road was relatively uphill. Then we continued our journey to Kirman, the nearest city. On the way a motorbike driver stopped and offered him a ride. Unfortunately, his motorbike was full of kurut, merchandise that he apparently wanted to sell in town. Finally we couldn't get on and he gave us each a kurut, a local cheese that is hard and tastes like yogurt. Known as kashk, kurut was my lunch that day. After walking almost 20 kilometers through the Hindu Kush mountain valley, we finally arrived at Kirman, which turned out to be just a village with little commercial activity. The residents were very friendly and offered us food and drink while we waited for a trucks to pass for us to hitchhike. When the truck passed, a village elder, Mudara, helped ensure that we got a free ride. The truck driver kindly took us to the east of Lal town which is next to a rainbow mountain. Lal is quite a commercial town so there was a bank where we could exchange dollars for Afghanis. At a restaurant-inn in Lal, I met Shayan, a local young man who spoke fluent English. He accompanied me to chat and explained to me about the friendliness of the Hazarajat people, namely the Hazara people who inhabit the western Hindu Kush mountains. Today I have felt their kindness and warmth. For tomorrow I planned to continue my journey until I reach Herat. ___ Stage 1 Route - Sumatra (DONE!): Jakarta - Bandar Lampung - Baturaja - Lahat - Pagar Alam - Bengkulu - Lebong Tandai - Kerinci - Jambi - Kuala Tungkal - Batam - Johor Bahru Stage 2 Route - ASEAN Mainland (DONE!): Johor Bahru - Kuala Tahan - Kota Bharu - Su-Ngai Kolok - Nakhon Si Thammarat - Chaiya - Nakhon Pathom - Bangkok - Nakhon Ratchasima - Phimai - Nong Khai - Vientiane - Vang Vieng - Luang Prabang - Chiang Rai - Chiang Mai - Pai - Chiang Mai - Chiang Rai - Boten - Kunming, China Stage 3 Route - China (DONE!): Kunming - Dali - Lijiang - Shangri-La - Shambala - Litang - Chengdu - Leshan - Chengdu - Xi'an - Zhangye - Jiayuguan - Dunhuang - Turpan - Urumqi - Almaty, Kazakhstan Stage 4 Route - Central Asia (DONE!): Almaty - Shymkent - Tashkent - Nukus - Muynak - Turtkul - Khiva - Bukhara - Samarkand - Tashkent - Khujand - Fann Mountains - Dushanbe - Kunduz, Afghanistan Stage 5 Route - Afghanistan: Kunduz - Samangan - Mazar-i-Sharif - Balkh - Kabul - Bamiyan - Band-e Amir - Yakawlang - Lal - Chagcharan - Herat - Mashhad, Iran *Follow my Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/obeysianipar/) for direct messages **Message me for sponsorship --- Music Credits: And Awaken - Stings by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/.
