On the 197th day, I explored Amman, the capital of Jordan. This city has a long history and is mentioned in the Holy Bible as Rabbath-Ammon, the capital of the Children of Ammon. That is the origin of the name of the city of Amman. In its history, this city once had another name, Philadelphia, when it became a Greek colony after the era of Alexander the Great. During the Roman Empire, precisely in the early second century AD, the Roman Theater was built in Philadelphia, which at that time was part of the Decapolis League. This Roman theater still survives today and has a seating capacity of 6,000 people. Right next door is the Odeon, a smaller theater with a capacity of 500 people. Both theaters are still used today for modern musical performances. These two theaters were built right on the hillside opposite the Amman Citadel, Amman's ancient fortress, which stands on a hill. In this fort, there are remains of the Palace of Ammon. According to the Bible, it was on this hillside that Uriah the Hittite died because of David's evil plans about 3000 years ago. Because the wind was coming, I immediately entered the Jordan Archaeological Museum. Here, I saw the statue of 'Ain Ghazal, the oldest human statue in the world. 'Ain Ghazal is an ancient settlement from 9000 years ago located on the outskirts of Amman. After the rain stopped, I visited the remains of a palace from the Umayyad era built in 700, the remains of a Byzantine church from 550, and the Temple of Hercules from the 160s. Not only did I enjoy the history and architecture of the Amman Citadel, but I also enjoyed the view of Amman from the fort. Tomorrow, I will go to Jerash to see the best preserved Roman remains in the Middle East. ___ Stage 1 Route - Sumatra (DONE!): Jakarta - Bandar Lampung - Baturaja - Lahat - Pagar Alam - Bengkulu - Lebong Tandai - Kerinci - Jambi - Kuala Tungkal - Batam - Johor Bahru Stage 2 Route - ASEAN Mainland (DONE!): Johor Bahru - Kuala Tahan - Kota Bharu - Su-Ngai Kolok - Nakhon Si Thammarat - Chaiya - Nakhon Pathom - Bangkok - Nakhon Ratchasima - Phimai - Nong Khai - Vientiane - Vang Vieng - Luang Prabang - Chiang Rai - Chiang Mai - Pai - Chiang Mai - Chiang Rai - Boten - Kunming, China Stage 3 Route - China (DONE!): Kunming - Dali - Lijiang - Shangri-La - Shambala - Litang - Chengdu - Leshan - Chengdu - Xi'an - Zhangye - Jiayuguan - Dunhuang - Turpan - Urumqi - Almaty, Kazakhstan Stage 4 Route - Central Asia (DONE!): Almaty - Shymkent - Tashkent - Nukus - Muynak - Turtkul - Khiva - Bukhara - Samarkand - Tashkent - Khujand - Fann Mountains - Dushanbe - Kunduz, Afghanistan Stage 5 Route - Afghanistan (DONE!): Kunduz - Samangan - Mazar-i-Sharif - Balkh - Kabul - Bamiyan - Band-e Amir - Yakawlang - Lal - Chagcharan - Herat - Mashhad, Iran Stage 6 Route - Iran (DONE): Mashhad - Tehran - Isfahan - Persepolis - Shiraz - Ahvaz - Shalamcheh Border - Shushtar - Shush - Bandar Abbas - Sharjah, UAE Stage 7 Route (DONE) - Arabian Peninsula: Sharjah - Dubai - Abu Dhabi - Riyadh - Jeddah - Madinah - AlUla - Hegra - Tabuk - Haql - Aqaba, Jordan Stage 8 Route - Jordan and Egypt: Aqaba - Wadi Rum - Petra - Amman - Jerash - Mount Nebo - Madaba - Dead Sea - Nuweiba - Giza - Cairo - Saqqara *Follow my Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/obeysianipar/) for direct messages **Message me for sponsorship --- Music Credits: And Awaken - Stings by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/. --- Chapters: 00:00 Prologue 06:39 Roman Theater in Amman 17:12 Amman Citadel (Rabbath-Ammon) 23:51 Umayyad Palace
