On day 164 I ventured from Shiraz to Sarvestan, visiting three main sites: Pink Mosque, Sarvestan Palace, and Pink Lake. The morning started by visiting the Nasir al-Mulk Mosque, known as the Pink Mosque. Many tourists come to the mosque which was built in the Qajar era right at the opening time for tourists, at 8 am, so they can take photos inside the pink mosque with colorful light from sunlight coming through the stained glass. The architecture of this mosque, which is almost 150 years old, is ordinary in my opinion, only featuring a mosaic of blue and pink tiles. This mix is found mostly in Shiraz. From there I continued by bus from Shahid Modarres Terminal to Sarvestan. The bus drove past the relatively dry Maharlu salt lake. I plan to stop there on the way back to Shiraz. In Sarvestan I looked for a ride to get to Sarvestan Palace. Allegedly, this building originates from the Sasanid era of Persia and was built by King Bahramgur in the 5th century AD. The shape of the giant dome is a prototype of domed building from the pre-Islamic era in Persia. From this middle-of-nowhere place, because there was no ride, I had to walk 3 km to the main road to find a ride to Lake Maharlu. Without much difficulty, I managed to find the pink water. This pink color is caused by pink algae which thrives when the salt content in the water increases drastically when the lake begins to dry out. It was currently autumn and the lake was relatively dry. It is said that the best time to go to this place is in May when the lake is still full of water and is a stopping place for migrating flaminggos. When I visited the lake, it was salt harvest period. Interestingly, I found piles of brown, white and pink mounds of salt like Campina ice cream. Towards sunset, I continued my journey home to Shiraz. Tomorrow I planned to visit Persepolis, the capital of ancient Persia. ___ Stage 1 Route - Sumatra (DONE!): Jakarta - Bandar Lampung - Baturaja - Lahat - Pagar Alam - Bengkulu - Lebong Tandai - Kerinci - Jambi - Kuala Tungkal - Batam - Johor Bahru Stage 2 Route - ASEAN Mainland (DONE!): Johor Bahru - Kuala Tahan - Kota Bharu - Su-Ngai Kolok - Nakhon Si Thammarat - Chaiya - Nakhon Pathom - Bangkok - Nakhon Ratchasima - Phimai - Nong Khai - Vientiane - Vang Vieng - Luang Prabang - Chiang Rai - Chiang Mai - Pai - Chiang Mai - Chiang Rai - Boten - Kunming, China Stage 3 Route - China (DONE!): Kunming - Dali - Lijiang - Shangri-La - Shambala - Litang - Chengdu - Leshan - Chengdu - Xi'an - Zhangye - Jiayuguan - Dunhuang - Turpan - Urumqi - Almaty, Kazakhstan Stage 4 Route - Central Asia (DONE!): Almaty - Shymkent - Tashkent - Nukus - Muynak - Turtkul - Khiva - Bukhara - Samarkand - Tashkent - Khujand - Fann Mountains - Dushanbe - Kunduz, Afghanistan Stage 5 Route - Afghanistan (DONE!): Kunduz - Samangan - Mazar-i-Sharif - Balkh - Kabul - Bamiyan - Band-e Amir - Yakawlang - Lal - Chagcharan - Herat - Mashhad, Iran Stage 6 Route - Iran: Mashhad - Tehran - Isfahan - Persepolis - Shiraz - Ahvaz - Shushtar - Shush - Shalamcheh Border - Bandar Abbas - Sharjah, UAE *Follow my Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/obeysianipar/) for direct messages **Message me for sponsorship --- Music Credits: And Awaken - Stings by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/.
