On the 178th day I spent the whole day traveling around Dubai, the largest city in the United Arab Emirates. For this reason, I bought a Nol Card for 6 dirhams ($2) that could be topped up to pay for public transportation in Dubai. There was no other choice. Buses don't accept cash payments and taxis are too expensive. I began my exploration from Dubai Expo, taking the first MRT in the Arabian peninsula. Because Dubai Expo is the first station, the train was still empty. The train passed through Dubai's business district via an elevated track so the view was fantastic. Passengers could see Burj Khalifa, Museum of the Future and Dubai Frame. I got off at Union Station so I could try taking an abra, a traditional boat (but now with motor power), to cross Dubai Creek and reach Old Dubai, the old city of Dubai. This 10 minute journey only costs 2 dirhams ($0.6). The old city of Dubai is a souvenir market targeting foreign tourists. In the old city area there is also the oldest building in Dubai, Al Fahidi Fort, which was built in the 18th century. Currently the fort has been turned into a museum. Al Fahidi is an old residential area of Dubai which has now become an apartment area inhabited by many South Asians such as Indians and Pakistanis. Allegedly, more than 50% of the Emirati population is expat workers from South Asia. Towards evening I took a bus to Burj Khalifa. I got off at Dubai Mall which is next to it. Dubai Mall is currently the most famous mall in Dubai. Inside, there is a giant aquarium with a various collection of sharks. In front of the mall, there is a park to watch the fountain light show of Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. Burj Khalifa reaches 828 meters. Every 30 minutes, the fountain dances with colorful lights and music. Various restaurants surround the park. I tried Pizza Hut, which I think is better than Pizza Hut in other countries.
