Count the Cost is a Leagues of Votann rock song inspired by the Kin, their mines, their claims, and the simple understanding that nothing worth having comes without a price. Deep beneath the stone, the Kin work their claim. They drill, haul ore, repair machinery and keep the loading lines moving. The work is dangerous, but danger is already part of the calculation. Stone breaks. Blood flows. The cost was known before the first drill ever touched the rock. And in Warhammer 40K, workplace hazards sometimes come carrying choppas. The Kin took this claim from the Orks once before. When the greenskins return and the loading line goes up in flames, the miners become soldiers again. Some Kin make it back. Some do not. Brann ran the drill. Kora worked the loading line. Dori brewed the worst damn tea. Harek cheated at every game. Their names are remembered. Their losses are counted. A measure is poured. Then the railing gets welded, the loader gets patched, the wall gets shored up, and the next shift begins. That is the life of the Leagues of Votann. Miners, engineers, voidfarers, warriors and workers living in one of the most hostile universes imaginable. They count the cost because they know the cost is coming. Twelve Kin. Back to the Ancestors. A dirty blues-rock and worker-rock Warhammer 40K inspired song built around twang guitar, heavy stomping rhythm, gritty harmonica, industrial percussion and the blue-collar attitude of the Leagues of Votann.
