A boisterous Adeptus Mechanicus drinking song powered by roaring electric organ, stomping rhythm, low Gregorian voices and a chorus dedicated to one of ancient Terra’s most indestructible machines. Deep beneath Terra, a sealed container dating back to M3 is brought to Mars and finally opened by the servants of the Omnissiah. Inside they discover an ancient Toyota Hilux. There is no plasma reactor, no cogitator and no incomprehensible lost technology. Instead they find four wheels, a steel body, a physical key and a laminated set of instructions explaining exactly what the machine requires. Oil Gasoline Electricity Spark Gasoline itself has long since vanished, so the Tech-Priests reconstruct the ancient fuel, restore the battery, follow the instructions and turn the key. The Hilux starts What follows rapidly becomes a theological event The vehicle is simple, repairable, understandable and apparently incapable of accepting that its working life should ever end. Roads deteriorate, paint wears and centuries pass, yet the machine continues doing exactly what its makers intended. When ancient records reveal that the Hilux was not a unique relic made for some ruler of Old Terra but an ordinary utility vehicle manufactured by the millions, the discovery becomes something even greater. Proof The Ancients knew how to build machines The recovered Hilux is washed, restored and repainted in holy white. The Tech-Priests add only a modest Aquila and a few purity seals, careful not to interfere with a design they have increasingly come to regard as complete. When one apprentice finally suggests improving it with modern technology, the answer is immediate.
