To the sons of the Khan, discipline must come from within. A warrior should be able to judge, adapt and act when the wall, the order and the distant commander cannot reach far enough. They are the road no map can keep. The reach beyond the wall. But freedom has its own test. If a warrior can only move, is he truly free? Can the wind choose to remain? Can the hunter stand beside the dying when every instinct tells him to ride? Can loyalty mean anything if there was never another road to choose? At the Siege of Terra, Jaghatai Khan faces the question at the heart of this song. Action brings terrible personal danger. Inaction means others will die. The question that matters is simple: Are there still lives within reach? Then he rides.
