This is the companion song to Cain’s earlier regimental tavern complaint, “Hero of the Imperium.” In that song, Cain attempted to enter a formal objection to being repeatedly sent into danger while soldiers, officers, and admirers continued chanting his name. Amberley has reviewed the performance. Her official ruling is that the song may remain in circulation for regimental morale. Several of its claims, particularly those concerning every woman in the sector, remain under investigation. These are Amberley Vail’s practical notes for handling Commissar Cain: Keep Jurgen close. Keep the tanna hot. Feed Cain before explaining the mission. Never describe a passage as safe. Never call him heroic before sending him through a burning door. If Cain stops joking, listen carefully. If Cain says everything is fine, leave immediately. If he asks for a quiet posting, investigate it before the cultists, greenskins, xenos, or awakening tomb machinery do. Cain may describe his victories as panic, luck, poor judgement, or an unfortunate misunderstanding. Amberley has read enough casualty reports to recognise the pattern. He searches for the nearest escape, notices what every decorated officer missed, and somehow returns with the survivors following behind him. He has crossed blades with monsters, cultists, aliens, and even a World Eater. After finding a krak-grenade rent in the traitor’s armour, Cain drove in his chainsword before Jurgen supplied the traditional melta-assisted conclusion. Cain naturally records this as survival rather than courage. Amberley records otherwise. Quietly. In red ink. She also understands that Cain’s reputation creates certain administrative difficulties. Noblewomen smile at him. Medicae personnel provide unnecessary attention. Officers request private briefings. Amberley is not jealous. She is thorough. The open-door briefing policy is entirely professional.
