What if the legendary Japanese battleship Yamato returned — not to the Pacific, but as a colossal Imperial Navy warship in the 41st Millennium? YAMATO II — QUEEN OF THE STARS Inspired by IJN Yamato, one of the most famous battleships of World War II, this original Warhammer 40K-inspired war-metal track reimagines the legendary Japanese warship at the scale of Imperial void warfare. Like Bismarck II, Yamato II comes from the Vetustissimus Rectus Subsector — an Imperial realm that preserves the proven war machines and naval traditions of ancient Terra, rebuilding them on a scale fit for the grim darkness of the far future. This time, Yamato has ventured too deep into hostile T'au territory. Surrounded by a massive T'au warfleet, she fights a battle she cannot win. Her enormous guns destroy enemy cruisers, but the attackers are too numerous, too fast and striking from every direction. Her void shields collapse. Her weapons begin to fail. Enemy boarding craft close in. The captain makes his final decision: Yamato will not be taken. The plasma reactor is prepared for overload. Then an Imperial transmission breaks through. BATTLESHIP MISSOURI. Emerging from the sunward approach, Missouri moves alongside Yamato and takes the punishment intended for the crippled battleship. With Missouri covering her port flank, Yamato can finally bring her surviving starboard batteries to bear. Two legendary battleships. One desperate counterattack. And the Queen of the Stars has not fired her last salvo. THE HISTORY BEHIND THE NAMES The real IJN Yamato was one of the heaviest and most powerfully armed battleships ever constructed, carrying nine enormous 460 mm main guns. She was sunk on 7 April 1945 during Operation Ten-Go, the final major Japanese naval offensive of World War II. Months later, on 2 September 1945, Japan's formal surrender was signed aboard the American battleship USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay. In this alternate Warhammer 40K-inspired universe, two legendary battleships that once fought on opposite sides of history return thousands of years later as allies in the defence of humanity. This is an original fictional reimagining, not a historical retelling or an official Warhammer story. If you know Yamato through World War II naval history, World of Warships, War Thunder, battleship documentaries, model building or military history, this is that legendary warship taken somewhere rather different.
