Who is Thomas Vail? Thomas Vail is an entirely ordinary, unusually amorous Imperial Guardsman who seems to have missed the part where the grimdark future is supposed to be grim. Give him a beer, somebody new to talk to, and absolutely no understanding of rank or personal danger, and Thomas is having a perfectly good day. Last time around he tried getting friendly with a Space Marine, complimented a Commissar, asked an Eldar ambassador to dance, and somehow survived attempting to charm a daemon. No medals, no great victories, just Thomas Vail living to tell the tale. This time things have become stranger. Orders concerning Thomas are coming from places far above his pay grade. Generals read his file and change their minds. He accidentally infiltrates a Chaos cult because they seem like good drinking companions, wanders into diplomatic negotiations, flirts with an Inquisitor during an investigation, and somehow keeps being sent onward. Then Thomas finally decides he has learned how to aim. Who is Thomas Vail? Nobody seems entirely sure.
