Deathless is a Necron heavy metal reimagining of Edvard Grieg’s In the Hall of the Mountain King, built around the awakening of the tomb worlds and the return of Szarekh, the Silent King. The lyrics follow the Necrons as their buried dynasties rise beneath a galaxy that mistook stillness for extinction. They also confront the Silent King’s legacy: the promise of immortality, the terrible price of biotransference, his exile after the War in Heaven, and his return after discovering a hunger capable of leaving nothing behind to reclaim. To the Necrons, they are temporary occupants standing between the crown and a dominion that was never truly surrendered. For the vocals, I chose a more human and varied ensemble. Necron bodies are no longer biologically male or female, but the people who entered biotransference once included both men and women and retained distinct identities. The Dynastic Herald carries the lead vocal, while male and female voices answer together as the awakening dynasties.
