I'm not a breathwork hater either Jerika!! I've been dabbling with breathwork since I first read Andrew Weil's book Spontaneous Healing in 1995 and learned the classic 4-7-8 breathing technique. This practice was essential for me when I was recovering from a respiratory infection a few years back - it really help me expand and grow back my lung capacity. However I noticed during this infection that if I wasn't careful with my underlying stress response (to this dis-ease of my lungs), I could see myself falling into a panicked state due to the constriction in my airways. All to say, there is a time and a place. I'm glad I knew some technique, but I'm also glad I knew how to shift my nervous system into less survival physiology and back into flow (even with the acute sickness I had) without having to change my breath - because here's the thing: when you feel less air, and you try to breathe harder and deeper, it can backfire into more constriction! From my experience, personal and professional, I haven't seen real regulation and actual window of tolerance built from breathwork alone, and, it can be a useful tool when one knows how to use it! 👉 To watch our full talk, head over to my main channel and look for the vlog titled, 'Anxiety, Perfectionism, and How One High-Achieving “Good Girl” Actually Healed | Jerika’s Story'
