The other week, I was looking for a GIF that depicted shame, and I came across one with Elmo. The GIF was only a few seconds, and the quality of shame that the puppeteer was able to portray was remarkable. I never ended up sharing it because the format didn't work here social media, but then I caught THIS clip with the late Robin Williams and Elmo, so I watched it, and lo and behold, at the very end of this skit was that exact GIF. Context is everything folks! In watching the full skit, you could really feel that "oh no, I make a mistake" quality that often comes with shame. Of course, puppet life is very different than real life, but, we do learn via art and vignettes like these. Speaking of learning: did you see the mini-class that we did on Toxic Shame the other week? It was a solid class on what one must understand to not only understand the shame one might be living with, plus what it takes to heal. 🔗 Get the replay here: www.irenelyon.com/mini-class/#replays Irene PS - Seth and I will be doing a livestream this Saturday at 12 pm Pacific Time, here on YouTube, to do a Q&A on the topic of shame. Be sure to join in, or watch the livestream.
