[NOTE: This is a sneak peek of an upcoming talk (long form talk) I'll be releasing on Sunday, August 23, with fellow Somatic Experiencing (SE) colleague Will Rezin.] Yes folks, it's true: Somatic Experiencing (SE) and the deeper roots of it, plus its essential offshoots that are still becoming know, IS the science of shamanism. This is why it is impossible to plunk SE into a category of method, technique, or even "just" somatic trauma therapy. You see, the originator (Levine) and his prodigies knew deep down about energy, cosmology, eastern traditions, and then some. The original works were developed in parallel to them, along with the hardcore science. But nowadays, a lot of the teaching and training is leaving this 'combo effect' behind, diluting it in the process. And while not all people in our field are dropping the energy (shamanic) piece, the bulk of people I talk to, and watch, online at least, seem to be unaware of these connections — and by the way, it ain't their fault that they don't know about this, it just hasn't been talked about very much since the explosion of the nervous system and trauma healing, online. So it is our hope that this conversation sparks things up and gets folks interested about the true roots of our work.
