If you feel you've tried ALL THE THINGS* to 'regulate' your nervous system so you can break out of freeze and shutdown nervous system states, but you still find yourself collapsed and unable to move in any direction—this can be literal, or metaphorical—then you are not alone. For the past six or so years, there's been a big misrepresentation of what ACTUAL somatic trauma healing work is. I feel it is time to course correct some of the stuff that has been taught as the 'things to do' that restore core, real, deep, regulation. * 'ALL THE THINGS' could be, but are not limited to: vagus nerve stimulation, vocal toning, breathwork, hydrotherapy with cold water (face dunking; full body immersion), somatic movement and other fascial unwinding processes, and even therapeutic techniques like EMDR, EFT, and get this, even Somatic Experiencing (this is true when the practitioner is only applying protocols and techniques to "get a result" versus working with the organic needs of the person's system). Now, don't get me wrong, there is a time and place for these 'things,' but just doing these ‘things’ alone does not, from my personal and professional experience, get to the root of what is creating the dysregulation. The key is working with the stored survival stressors (aka: trapped traumas) and also any levels of core unsafety that might be driving the system to feel helpless and unable to mobilize lifeforce energy. But, before you get to any of this, you must build capacity and knowledge. #knowthyself So if you'd like to get to the bottom of this stuff once and for all, consider my online curriculum, Foundations. This is the prequel to my signature online curriculum, SmartBody SmartMind (SBSM) which has helped thousands of people in over 120 countries for over a decade now. 🔗 www.smartbodysmartmind.com Irene PS - Foundations can't work with it all in a few weeks, but it is proving to help people build up real life capacity so that the deeper survival stress work can take place a little easier.
