Welcome back to the Kinlaig Farm Estate Timelapse. This episode expands beyond fieldwork into construction and resource independence. Alongside farming operations, we are restoring historic sites, including rebuilding a mill based on old blueprints and planning the restoration of an old castle. These projects require a steady supply of wood building materials. Instead of purchasing materials from warehouses, we move toward self-sufficiency. To support this, we invest in a high-end forestry setup. At the equipment dealer, we purchase a powerful wood harvester capable of cutting and processing trees, along with a low-bed trailer for transporting heavy machinery. We identify and purchase a forested plot to begin operations. After arriving on site, the harvester is prepared and starts felling trees, cutting them into logs for transport. While the machine is designed for large timber, some trees exceed even its capabilities, requiring selective harvesting. Despite this, the processed logs are sufficient to begin supplying our sawmill. The logs are delivered to the sawmill, where lumber production starts immediately.
