Currently Playing: Taking a basic vintage colonial dresser and turning it into a showstopper!

*EXTENDED CUT* I took a basic Colonial-style dresser and turned it into a true showstopper. This solid wood dresser was an estate sale find with plenty of potential, but the original finish felt dated and heavy. The shape was classic, the construction was solid, and the details were worth keeping. It just needed the right combination of paint, stain, and updated finishing touches to bring it back to life. I stripped the top and the base to expose the natural wood, then refinished those areas with a rich dark walnut stain. The darker wood adds warmth and contrast while highlighting the traditional shape of the dresser. For the body, I chose a gorgeous muted navy. It gives the piece a more current look without overpowering the original design. The contrast between the navy paint and dark walnut wood completely changed the personality of the dresser. I finished the makeover with aged brass hardware, which complements both the warm wood tones and the muted navy beautifully. I also lined the drawers for a clean, polished finish inside. This makeover is a great example of how a basic traditional dresser can become something beautiful without removing all of its original character.
